I've been arguing with one guy in our IT department regarding the following. I told him that there is a file on Windows XP installation CD that contains information whether this is home, professional of volume license CD. Just can't remember the name and location of the file, but I am sure that it exists. Can anyone remind me the name of this file and its location on CD. Thanks.

Guessing you don't have a cd you can pop in and look at:eek:

My OEM XP Pro has a folder called DOCS and within it is a file called PRO.txt

Release Notes for Setup-> Microsoft Windows XP Professional

No it's not the file in DOC folder. As far as I remember this is the file sitting in i386, that stores the actual string/value for different versions.

I found it. The file is called "setupp.ini" and is in the i386 folder and it tells the computer whether it is OEM, retail or Volume licence -- NOT which version of windows it is (i.e.home, pro etc...).
