While trying to download from an FTP site, I managed to get a file/folder on my drive called COM3.;;,,,

Different file managers report it as a folder or a file.

Since it's a restricted file name, I'm surprised it took but it did.

When I try to delete the file, the system says it isn't there. Same from a DOS prompt. I've tried the latest MiniPE and the file shows up on the drive but I can't delete from there either. Says it isn't there.

Any ideas on how to get rid of it without formatting?

Thanks for any and all help.

Try MoveOnBoot. It will delete the files you tell it to on the next boot, before Windows can load and interfere. It's free.

If that doesn't work, try KillBox.

Thanks, Miz. Neither of those programs worked but I'm going to keep them both.

I finally got rid of the file with Unlocker, a great program. Don't know why I didn't think of it first thing.

    Thanks again,
    Ed

    Just an idea...

Although you solved the problem already, I wanted to offer you another tool for this cases: DelInvFile.
In hope we all will never need it (although it wasn't there if we wouldn't need it )...
