Hi, Speedy555. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

Please follow the instructions in this link and then post your DebugWiz-generated crash dump log here. That might provide us with enough information to pinpoint the cause of your "Blue Screen of Death" (BSOD) problem.

    KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.
    Arguments:
Arg1: c0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: 00000000, The address that the exception occurred at
    Arg3: eceeda68, Trap Frame

Hi, Speedy555. Good work with getting the crash dump info! :)

I quoted snippets of your first crash dump with boldface/red added for parts that I think might be relevant.

While I don't claim to be an expert :( regarding BSOD dump analysis, according to this 4-page article, Network World: "How to solve Windows system crashes in minutes" (specifically the last paragraph of page 3), it appears your BSOD problem might be caused by ati3duag.dll.

Since the suspect filename begins with "ati ", my (somewhat experienced) guess is you are using an ATI-based graphics card. Also, I think your ASUS 9550GE card is a "Radeon" card and "Radeon" is associated with ATI. Therefore, I would suggest your graphics card drivers need to be updated (or even rolled back to an earlier version) from the ASUS web site or the ATI web site (or your installation CD if you have one for your specific card). I would try replacing your ATI graphics card drivers with other driver versions for your card until the problem disappears.

If I recall correctly, one of our resident hardware experts, mattman, has suggested in the past that graphics drivers tend to reach their peak performance for a video card one or two versions after the version that shipped with the card. In other words, it is not necessarily the best to have the "latest & greatest" graphics card drivers for a particular graphics card.

Since your 2nd crash dump appears to involve Windows Media Player (PROCESS_NAME: wmplayer.exe), that also seems to implicate your graphics card drivers.

I think it is generally advisable to uninstall graphics card drivers while in Safe Mode and then install graphics card drivers in Normal Mode.

Perhaps the hardware experts here will provide additional or different suggestions.

Please let us know if this works for you or not.

    Thaks for your advice....
Yes my card is ATI RADEON 9550...
I try everything u said, i try new drivers, old drivers, drivers that came with my video card, but the problem is still here, nothing is changed....:(
I also try replacing my graphic card with sisters ATI REDEON 9250, but with this card problem is same....

I dont know, what to think any more....because those drivers work nice on the other motherboard that I try....K7VT4A (like i said in my first post)...

    Hi, Speedy555.

I'm sorry you haven't found a fix yet. :( It appears to me your graphics card (ASUS RADEON 9550GE) just doesn't want to get along with your specific motherboard (ASrock K7NF2) with the available Asus/ATI drivers whenever you play a 3D game.

Perhaps you could try poking around the official ASRock web site (I assume http://www.asrock.com/) for newer BIOS firmware version and/or chipset drivers to try for your motherboard. Perhaps that will give you a mobo BIOS/chipset drivers/graphics card drivers combination that works well for your gaming. I suggest you be sure to get a download that exactly matches your CPU/motherboard hardware. I expect the download(s) you are looking for are here.

I assume you got your various grahics card driver versions to test from the official web sites (I assume www.asus.com and/or www.ati.com) and not some 3rd-party provider. There appears to be a lot of sites that offer drivers, some for sale. I would be extremely wary about trying any 3rd-party web sites because many drivers that some/many of those web sites offer for sale are available elsewhere on the Internet for free.

I Googled your particluar mobo/graphics card combination, K7NF2 9550GE blue screen, and it appears most of the approximately 56 results are foreign language (non-English) pages and/or McAfee's SiteAdvisor hasn't yet safety-rated most of those web sites either so I didn't poke around.

Googling K7NF2 9550GE crash yielded even fewer results, again foreign language pages and/or not safety rated by SiteAdvisor yet.

Does your machine work well with all or most of your non-gaming applications?

I'm not a die-hard gamer myself so I don't know what possible settings you could try via your graphics card software or system hardware. I know there is a whole different world of gamers out there that like to try overclocking and other such "tweaking ".

Let's hope the hardware experts here have suggestions for you. They understand the "tweaking world" much better than me. :)

    Hi mailman...
    Thanks for your effort...

Like I say in the first post, the same problem I have with ABIT NF7-S, so i dont think that is the motherboard problem....
I even try with different graphic card like i sad in my previous post, but the problem is the same...

Every driver i try was from the official web sites...

Yes, in all other application it works fine.

    Hi again, Speedy555.

FWIW, I'm letting you know I was editing my post above to provide additional information and links after you posted your reply (in case anything I added might be relevant).

Since your system works well for all non-gaming applications, the only other idea I can think of right now is to check the game websites for version updates to their software.

Apart from that, I guess I have to defer further suggestions to the hardware experts here and I'll follow this thread with interest.

    Good luck!

Nope I dont thinks thats the reason, because it freeze in more than one game, and it aslo restarts in 3DMark03 (with completed with no problem on K7VT4A with the same hardware).

Hi once again. Maybe you wish I'd just go away. ;) If so, just say so. Until then, I'll still post ideas as I think of them. :)

    Here's another longshot.

    I noticed in your dumps...
Perhaps if you upgrade your Windows XP to Service Pack 2 and install all other critical updates that have been released since the SP2 release date, your BSODs will stop. Microsoft directs us to use Windows Update for upgrading a single computer to SP2.

If you want the network SP2 install package (266 MB), you can download it via this link:
Windows XP Service Pack 2 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers

This network package is also recommended for slipstreaming to a bootable SP2 CD in case you want to go that route.
Instructions: Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Create Bootable CD

Please let us know if upgrading to SP2 works for you.

    Hi again Mailman.
No dont stop, i love your idea....
I dont have any of my own, i really try everything...

It is not the problem in SP1, because my first try was on SP2 with all updates but the problem was the same...
So I thougth maybe is problem in SP2, and installed XP SP1...
    But it was not helpfull...
Because in my dump file is SP1 :)

    Mailman has been going well.:)

I think it is in the drivers.

It looks like you have tried reinstalling Windows and the results are the same. Is that right? There is no chance of any drivers hanging around from any previous graphics cards?

Did you install the nVidia motherboard/chipset drivers before installing the ATI drivers? Check at Asrock for updated chipset drivers, if there are no updated drivers available, find those recommended by nVidia (check for information about SLI and non-SLI, although I should point out that I have never had an nVidia chipset).

As mailman said, uninstall the drivers in Safe Mode. Run the uninstaller in Add/Remove Programs, then check there are no listings for Display Adapter in Device Manager.

At the ATI website they have an "Catalyst Uninstaller" for Win XP. You could try running that in Safe Mode as well. They also have a set of Catalyst drivers for Win XP when the "standard" Catalyst drivers (those installed by the Windows installation CD) do not work correctly...and I think this covers you. You may have tried them already, but completely uninstalling the old drivers may be the key.

After you have uninstalled the old drivers in Safe Mode and reboot into normal Windows, the Hardware Wizard will run. When it asks you to select the drivers, click Cancel, this will take you to the desktop using "standard" drivers. Run the driver installation program then.

Parts of those Debugging reports mention resouce conflicts. I think this could be due to not having the chipset drivers installed correctly, although you may want to check if there is any built-in or added hardware that you may be running that may be wanting to share resouces with the graphics (and that could mean any type of hardware from a mouse to a multimedia PCI card).

My view is that when Windows is trying to run the 3D part of graphics, then the problem occurs. Everything mentions 3D.

Is your version of DirectX up to date (probably)?

Run dxdiag. Enter dxdiag at the Run command line. There are simple 3D tests under the Display tab. They may give you some information about what might be wrong.

An ATI/nVidia clash, maybe. A resources clash more likely.

    Matt

    Hi mattman
    Thanks for ur help...

It was the driver, i try almost all ATI drivers and i finally find the one that work fine (for now :) )
With this drivers 3DMark03 pass with no problem, so i think that we solved theproblem.

    Thanks u both for help.

Good stuff, mailman's detective work was excellent  . Well done to you both.

Let's hope those drivers "stick ".

Thanks for the compliments, Matt. It means a lot.

BTW, Speedy, if you haven't done so already, I suggest you apply all your Windows Updates to get back to using a fully patched Windows XP SP2 at your earliest convenience. There are reportedly a lot of security holes in SP1 just waiting to be exploited by the turds out there on the Internet.

    Hi Speedy555,

I've been having similar BSOD problems since installing an ATI Radeon 9550GE. Did you really solve your problem? Which driver did you find that worked?

This problem is very common. Just do a quick search of "ati3duag.dll ".

I think I solved the problem (for me at least). I have an Asus P5S800VM motherboard that came with an "Asus Enhanced Driver" that they recommended I installed, so I did at the time. I had no probs until I installed the ATI Radeon 9550 some weeks later. I assumed the problem lay with the ATI driver, but it seems that the asus enhanced driver is the culprit. I uninstalled it a few days ago and have not had one BSOD since (whereas I was having many each day).

So if anyone with an ATI graphics card and an Asus mobo is having these crashes, try uninstalling the asus enhanced driver.

Hi, johnf. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

Thank you for posting your fix. Hopefully it will help others who have similar BSOD problems relating to ati3duag.dll, the ATI Radeon 9550 graphics card and/or an Asus motherboard in their machines.
