Spyware Quake

In my taskbar (I'm referring to my right corner of the desktop) there's a red and black popup with a question mark on it that is always telling me virus alert! - critical system error! system detected virus activities. they may cause......

what's this please? how can I remove it? I think it's some sort of spyware...when I click on the popup it leads me to this website: www.spywarequake.com
