You should have received a drivers CD with the computer. The chipset drivers will be on that.

If you don't have the CD, you will need to download the drivers from the motherboard or computer (Dell, HP, Compaq, Gateway, Sony, etc) manufacturer's website (some manufacturers put the drivers in folders on the C: drive, but I doubt you have this type of system).

To find the motherboard manufacturer, use Everest in my signature and go to Moterboard -> Motherboard -> Motherboard Properties. You can post the readout here if you like or do a Google search or go to the manufactutrer's website and look up your model on their Support page.

When Windows is installed it has a basic set of drivers that run the machine. You need to install the manufacturer's drivers to make the hardware work correctly.

The chipset drivers are very important beause all the other hardware (incuding the CPU) runs through them. As soon as Windows is installed you should run the manufacturer's drivers disk that was supplied with the computer (unless you have upgraded some hardware and the drivers for those will be on a disk that came with that hardware).

Many people forget to install the manufacturer's drivers and do not realize until they come across a problem like your's. If you leave it for too long, other drivers may get installed incorrectly and your system starts working poorly. This may be very hard to fix.

Just remember, if you do a fresh install of Windows, install all the drivers you have as soon as you can, starting with the chipset drivers, then the graphics/video drivers, then all the other drivers. Your system should run as smooth as silk :) (until internet junk clogs it up, that is :D )

Hope it goes well for you.
