I've been unable to change my home page in IE. Norton asks if I want to change, and even after choosing to, it won't change. Where's my problem this time? Thanks

    Hello XP Dummy........

OK, why are you trying to change your homepage, is it just because you're wanting a different page from previously or is it a page that somehow your browser got reset to?

Also, do you have any other monitoring applications, such as Spybot Search & Destroy or something of that nature which may be resetting your change?

    Let us know.

    hello XP dummy
ur home page is simply the page internet explorer opens with but u may have as many pages as u want, like cnn, msnbc, yahoo, msn, etc.no matter what page u r looking at if u want to save it to come back to it later when u want with out having to type the url just look up at the top of ur browser page and click FAVORITES,when u get the scroll down click add to favorites and u have the page saved right there any time u want it with out having to go browsing for it or typing in the url in the address bar.TO set ur home page,go to the webpage u want to use as ur home page, look up on the tool bar and click on TOOLS, at bottom of scroll down clik internet options, then clk the USE CURRENT button in the home page section, its just that easy.IIIF any application ask u are u sure u want to change ur home page clk yes.close internet explore and u reopen it u will b looking at the page u chose.get familiar
with the internet options window.browse thru it,there 's lots going on in ur browser(internet explorer)depending on the settings in this window.I dont know of any applications that will reset or change ur home page without ur approval.

I'll try to make this short.........I was using the home page of my ISP for my home page for when I opened IE. A while back I got a message/window from them that said I needed an update to FlashPlayer in order for the page to display properly. Attempts to download the updated software were frustrating as I couldn't do it without also loading the Yahoo toolbar. The download page had a box to check or uncheck to indicate whether or not I also wanted that. Numerous attempts trying to download just the FlashPlayer update without the Yahoo toolbar were unsucessful, I always ended up with both, so the update was not loaded. So now the page is a window with a blue background, and nothing else displayed. Yahoo toolbar was the cause of another browser problem that was solved by uninstalling it. (Help was obtained through this forum). I just wanted to change the page to something else that would display properly. So I've been loading the page that I want to change it to, then click on tools/options and current page, then apply and ok. I get something from Norton that asks if I want to change the page; I indicate that I do. Upon closing the browser and reopening, the original blue page is still there. Back to square 1. I do have Spybot, but I'm not sure how that is preventing the page change. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Where were you trying to DL the flash player from?

It surely does not sound as tho it was from Adobe, because I have installed dozens and dozens of these and it has never once even tried to install the YaHoo tb once it was unticked.

    DL from here

I would try this for your homepage, disable Norton as you're changing the page. Make sure there are no instances of any Norton applications running, if possible, I know some of the processes may be protected. Make the change, then reboot and let Norton restart as it normally would, and see if you get any alerts.

Also, which Norton app do you have? There's lots of different set ups.

I don't remember where the download link went to, but will try yours. I'm running Norton Sytem Works and Norton Firewall. And thanks.

    home page woos

Follow the dl link in Temercs last post it will take u to the adobe sight to down load a flash player.this one will work, but the latest flash is v10.0. use and count on the search engine and bar at top of browser.u can find out about anything just by typing a few direct simple words.like if u type in the search bar LATEST FLASH PLAYER
u will get a page with several links to a page to get it.if u do get the yahoo toll bar anyway no biggy, just uninstall it.
make sure u have ur system restore enabled,u can always backup ur system to a point when it was working fine.
do cookie cleaning now and again, also delete ur (check offline box too)temp. internet files, and clear history files, clik ok,close and open browser to take effect.this helps the browser like a tuneup. also,u dont have to download any web browser like yahoo or msn to use them as home pages, just type their url's go to the page then save it to favorites.forget all the down load files,u dont need them to get the page u want. some browsers u have to download like firefox, mozilla because they dont go thru internet explorer, they b stand alone browsers.
