 I have just bought a Belkin wireless g network card (F5D7000uk) to go with a netgear router (WGR614). I can ping router with network card. I have tried disabling the nic and still does not work. I could get internet through the nic before. Tried disabling norton and my firewall. The computer has detected the network card and all drivers are installed plus the software on the disk that came with it. Wireless status is connected and strength is excellent but still i can not connect to the internet. I have tried everything i can think of and would really appreciate any advice!

OK - you need four things to be able to conenct to the internet
    1. A working internet router. As you say yours worked before you changed the NIC, we'll assume the problem is elsewhere (however it may be worth returning to this - as it isn't unknown for coincidence of a router failure with a NIC change).
    2. A valid IP address on the network. Can you confirm that you can ping the router. If so you have a valid IP address as you have to have one to be able to ping the router.
    3. A route out of the network. In the vast majority of cases this is the default route, as it should be for your set up. So your default route must be to the internal address of the router. At a command prompt, use ipconfig /all to view your IP settings. Make sure that the default route is set to the internal IP address of your router.
    4. Access to a DNS server that can resolve internet names to IP addresses. The classic symptom of this is being able to ping internet sites by IP address, but not by name. Try the following command:

      ping 216.239.59.104

If you get a reply to this but cannot ping or connect to www.google.com then the problem is that your DNS isn't set up correctly.
Working through this list should help you narrow down the problem. Post back with what you find and we should be able to provide more specific advise.

This is what i get. Also i can connect to the internet by cable straight from the modem so i thought that it might be my router that is having the problem but i can still share files over the network. I have tried resetting my router back to factory settings but it makes no difference. Could it have anything to do with the dchp server.

No. The router is working correctly. The fact that the trace gets to your ISP's DNS server proves that. I think you have a broswer or firewall problem.

OK - one last test to make sure the network is working. If it is, the following command should succeed:

    nslookup www.google.com

You should get a resolution to IP address. If this works, as I said, I do not think this is a network problem.

You say you've tested the system with the computer's firewall switched off. It might be worth running these tests again. If turning them off doesn't change thing, I think we have to look at browsers. I suggest the next step would be to try a different browser. Download firefox or opera and try connecting to the internet with them.

Ah! We have a DNS problem. Good, that should be easier to fix than a browser/firewall problem.

It looks as though your DNS is set up to use the router as a DNS relay. Try statically setting DNS as 62.31.144.39 in the computer's TCP/IP properties.
