I just recently downloaded and tried Netscape but found I didn't really like it much so I unistalled it via "add remove programs ". Now any time I shut my system down (turn it off) or do a reboot I have a notice telling me something is not shut down (its only on the screen for approx 2-3 seconds).

It says something like shutting down program "SW" .... anyone have any idea what this program is.... I'm just assuming it has something to do with Netscape that got left behind....

Also since I removed Netscape I have also found I cannot access any file saved on CD that was archived with WinZip... I can't copy, open, view etc.... It now says my security settings don't allow that action.... but if they are on my hard drive, I can access them with no problems...
I can however access any other archived file (rar etc.) with no problems....

Since you can't post the exact error message, it's hard to say what is happening. I really don't believe this is a Netscape issue. It sounds more like a Windows issue to me, especially the WinZip problem. Netscape would have no effect on WinZip, or in my opinion, shutdown.

I would suggest that you use a Registry cleaner to ensure all vestiges of Netscape are removed. Also delete the Netscape subfolder in Program Files: C:\Program Files\Netscape

Having done this, then if the problem still exists, you will see whether or not it is a Windows error.

According to Google, this could indicate a Spyware program from Greatis Software, or it can be a SmartWhoIs application from yahoo. Look for: C:\Windows\System32\sw.exe.

If you find it, right-click, select Properties, and see if it has a Version tab. If
so, then see who owns it. If no Version tab, then most likely it is
Spyware, most spyware apps leave the version info out so that you cannot
    track them.

If found, search your registry for sw.exe. Somehow, this is being called
    at shutdown by something.

The exact error or warning reads exactly as follows.... when trying to access winzip files on a cd....

    Security Alert

Your current security settings do not allow this action

It is impossible to read the shutdown error I get because it move way too fast, I've only been able to see the program is called SW, with no extension or anything else....

I did however find if I re-install Netscape (which I did) the problems stop... when I uninstall it again the problems start again....

Most important is this question. Which version Netscape are talking about?
Usually, when people say that they don't like, they are referring to the Netscape Browser, or v.8.1. I have uninstalled it, and reinstalled a total of 10 times, and never had a problem, and, i have reinstalled it since.
If you have no problem when installed, and you have allowed some files to be opened by Netscape (and, this has been a Netscape 6 or 7 issue), then you have to make sure that your Preferences|Advanced|System do not show that you allowed such files to be opened. Uncheck everything. tell us first if there is any check mark there. You may have to reboot your computer first, and then proceed to uninstall. The Windows File associations may have been messed up if you allowed Netscape to become default.
So, in a way it may be related by something left behind. SW could indicate Macromedia Shockwave or good old Flash.

    A & O,

Did you use a Registry cleaner to get rid of everything Netscape, and delete the Netscape Program folder when you uninstalled Netscape? Don't forget to let us know which version of Netscape.

I'm no Windows guru, so Westside may be onto something...

I've done ALL of the above and thanks for your suggestions and help.... but after about 18 hours searching I have been able to narrow this problem to actually be a problem with a recent update from ms. The update had something to do with IE's security settings... now I just need to figure out how to make changes to these settings because windows will not allow it....

I, just, got fed up with NS8.1, and uninstalled it. I did a simple uninstall keeping the profile, and made sure that it was not default for anything. Then, I topped the operation with a registry cleanup.
I uninstalled NS8.1, and then reinstalled it three times today, and, every time it showed some new weird thing. But this is all internal. So, I don't know why you are having problems outside NS8. I would try to reinstall it again, making sure that you uncheck the box to check for default, and select no.
