I have a desktop pc HP Pavillion A708uk which will not boot up
When switched on all the fans etc turn but their is no output to the video
I have tried booting from floppy and cd with the same results.
So I suspect the motherboard which I believe is part number 5187-5612
The problem is I have been unable to locate this motherboard for sale anywhere on the internet including HP themselves

Would it be possible to install a compatable motherboard and if so what am I looking for?

The motherboard is a Micro ATX form factor. You should(?) just need to get another Micro ATX motherboard with a 478 socket. The problem may be that case is specially designed for the HP motherboard, so then you would need another case. THEEEN, is the Power Supply a special shape? Will it fit into a different shaped case (and are the bolt holes in the same place as a standard machine)? You should check into these things.

A suggestion for a slim chance on the video/graphics problem. There are instructions for clearing the CMOS here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...c=en&product=436507&lang=en&docname=c00211786
Disconnect all power to the computer when you do so.

When you change the CPU to the new motherboard you will need to replace the thermal compound between the CPU and the heatsink. Read the instructions for Arcticsilver 5 here:
    www.arcticsilver.com

What parts will you have to carry over?:
    CPU
    RAM
HDD (and you won't be able to use the HP Windows disk, which may be a good thing).
    Optical drive.
The floppy may not have a facia, so you may need a new one if you need a new case.
    Keyboard
    Mouse

I think you will enjoy the adventure :)
