Hey Wazz, I too have been trying to do this. The trouble is... the Nwtwork Administrator at our place is a real pain in the a** and nothing can get throught the proxy server to allow me to connect.

I will be really interested if anyone can help. God bless you all.

If you know the IP address assigned to your PC at home, any signal such as a ping or finger will wake it up. The other option if you don't want to fight with short leases on IP addresses from an ISP is to register yourself a domain name so you can get to it by name.

Stig - if you just want to wake it up, use a web-based service like the ones offered at http://trugeek.com/Tools/ and you can at least wake it up as long as you can get http traffic in/out of your LAN.

If you actually want to talk to your home PC and can set it up, RAS might be a reasonable route to go.

I thought the "Wake on Lan" used a specially crafted pack (MAGIC PACKET) to wake the PC,

Otherwise any broadcast traffic, or anyone randomley pinging could wake up PC's

Am i Correct in thinking this, I looked on http://trugeek.com/Tools/ and could not see any WOL option

"Magic packet" sent to the NIC is what causes it to wake up the computer via its WOL cable connection to the motherboard. Do a google search on "magic packet" and you'll find lots of info. On a LAN, getting the magic packet to your computer via a local subnet broadcast is easy, but via the internet would be a bit tricky.
