Has anyone tried this free firewall? It's rated very highly. I must say that at first glance it appears rather difficult to understand. I was unable to find any documentation for its operation so I essentially went back to Zone Alarm.

    Hi James,

I have looked at it and from what I've read, it seems impressive.

Comodo will be the firewall that I'll try when I get a new system, either late this year or early next year for Vista.

I'll have three firewalls on three installations :)

    Regards - Charles

    Hi all.

I downloaded and installed Comodo. Locked up my system to the point that it booted over and over. Unable to boot into safe mode. Totally botched. I had backed up my entire system before installing Comodo so I just restored the backup and booted up normally. I then downloaded a fresh copy of Comodo and installed it on a fresh installation of Vista. Same thing. Restored my Vista installation and everything booted up fine. No other firewall was loaded or running, not even Microsoft's firewall. Goodby Comodo. I had been using Armor2Net Personal Firewall which I like pretty much so I reinstalled it and all is well.

I tried it as well... shortly after I started this thread, but experienced problems with it. Tried for a few hours to sort them out and baled out. I'm back to Windows Live OneCare and so far I'm pleased.

    Hi Giles and James,

Thanks for the heads up, I'll keep your bad experiences in mind when I try Commodo.

I do use drive imaging so if I run into a problem, I will be able to recover cleanly.

But before I try any 3rd party firewall, I'll try Vista's built in one and see how it differs (for the better I hope) from XP's WF.

    Regards - Charles
