Anyone know how to get a monitor working with a laptop? I've got an old laptop running xp with a samsung monitor plugged into the port on the docking station.

Device mgr seems to know there are two 'generic' monitors now but is only using the builtin screen.

Might be laptop brand dependent? So post your make & model. On my Dell Latitude it's Fn + F8 to switch between CRT/LCD.

Thanks Arie. When I use the Fn-F8 combo the screen flashes black and back on but nothing on the other monitor. Also according to the Windows troubleshooter I should be able to go to display properties and see an icon for the secondary display then click that select a "use secondary monitor ".

But on display properties although I see text describing accurately what the second monitor is, there is no icon to click or check/radio box to select.

Generally the Fn+F? keys toggle the displays through ....

    Laptop only
    Laptop plus external monitor
    External Monitor only
    Laptop only
    and so on

    Not necessarily in that order.

Try plugging the monitor directly into the laptop D-Sub rather than the docking station. Might need to reload the video drivers.
