After I get done installing it, it starts to boot up for the first time, however, it just sits at that black screen with the Windows XP logo on it and the "activity bar" and does nothing, the "activity bar" moves for a little bit pauses for a minute or two then starts moving again, it looks like the hard drive is being accessed every once in awhile but it never loads windows. The only way I can start up windows XP is in safe mode. How can I fix this problem so I can use Windows XP???

I had a very similiar problem:
    AMD Athlon 1.2, 256Ram, Geforce2MX 100/200 32MB video card.
    (was WIN ME)

It would not boot after instillation of XP Home. After several different try's, and calling MS, it was my video card causing it. The Geforce2 "IS" suported by XP, but will cause a stop during instillation.
Luckily, I had another computer, and I used that card to complete the setup. Once done, I shutdown, swapped the cards again, re-started. XP found the Geforce card with no problem, and even installed "signed" drivers for it from the CD.

    Hope this helps.

Can you still boot up into your old OS ? If so, try to update the drivers for your card.
Also, looking at the 3dfx website, I saw this:
"3dfx Interactive, Inc. is no longer providing support for any 3dfx products and drivers. Information about 3dfx is no longer available from the 3dfx.com website. Please be advised that on February 19, 2002, the 3dfx.com website will be shut down entirely. "

    Try here:

How much memory on the video card? XP really prefers at least 30Mb to operate normally.

The fact that you can boot into safe mode makes me suspect you just can't get the resolution you are set for with the current card configuration.

You might try booting to safe mode, setting the card to a low resolution (size and colors) and seeing if it will boot into normal mode then.

Even after updating the drivers for XP it still doesn't work, same thing still happens. The only way XP will start is in Safe Mode
