    Hi to all,

I've downloaded the latest driver version (5.5 from microsoft) and installed it. When I checked the driver, I got another version number (5.2.017... which is the version that is installed with the 5.2 version). I tried to force update of the driver and choosed the Wireless Natural Multimedia Keyboard (106/109). When I restarted the computer, it doesn't recognize the keyboard (this is only after windows startup, because before startup the keyboard is known so I can enter to the bios).
The problem is that I can't type anything so I can't login to any password protected account to undo the modification. When I log to the guest account to see the keyboard property, I saw : "The device couldn't be started" or a message like this.

I've tried to connect a normal keyboard with no success. I have tried the keyboard on another windows (on the same computer) and it works with no problem.

Anyone know how can I resolve this problem without reinstalling windows XP SP2.

Try booting into Safe Mode with a standard keyboard (tap the F8 key while the startup screens are running).

I don't remember if I have done it. I'm sure I've tried booting in safe mode, and I have tried booting with a standard keyboard, but I don't know if I have combined both.

I'll try this and post what happend.

PS: is there a way to remove the password from my account (by modifying the file where windows store the password or information about accounts)?

That is one of the Windows security systems. Noone here could tell you even if they knew how.
It should not matter though, it all depends on if you can use the keyboard or not. If you can use the keyboard, you can type the password.

I succeed to remove my administrator password so I can log to my account. The
problem is that after uninstalling the driver and installing the old one I
    have the same problem.
In device manager, I have this message under the device status:
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be
corrupted or missing. (code 39) "

Also I got another message in safe mode I think
"A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternative driver
may be providing this functionality (code 32). "

Anyone have an idea on how to fix this problem?

It sounds like "Wireless Natural Multimedia Keyboard (106/109)" is the wrong model. At least Windows is not happy using it.

Should it be Plug and Play? I suggest you boot into Safe Mode. Check in Add/Remove Programs for any software listed that would relate to the keyboard and uninstall it. Go to device Manager and remove any listings for keyboards. Boot back into normal Windows and run the drivers CD that came with the keyboard. Shutdown and connect the keyboard. When the hardware wizard detects keyboard and asks for drivers, direct it to the CD (or where you have unzipped/decompressed the new drivers). Let Windows make the selection of which driver to choose.

If Windows says it cannot find the driver, check the drivers CD for a set of instructions/manual and see if there were any steps missed out.

I take it that it is a USB based connection. You may need to uninstall/reinstall or update your USB drivers. I tend to think it may be a conflict with old keyboard drivers on your system though.

    Yeah I've noticed :(

Well I've booted into safe Mode, removed the software but unfortunately, Windows didn't remove it well (because when I try to install it again in normal mode it told me that there is a version installed). Then I removed the driver from the device manager and booted back to normal windows, but directly, Windows install the old driver with a "!" sign on that device and code 32 message. Even if I update the driver to the new one, I have the same message.

    >If Windows says it cannot find the driver, check the drivers CD for a set of >instructions/manual and see if there were any steps missed out.
Windows directly install the driver from its cache I think so no way to remove it and install a clean one :(

    >I take it that it is a USB based connection. You may need to uninstall/reinstall or >update your USB drivers. I tend to think it may be a conflict with old keyboard >drivers on your system though.
In fact the Keyboard has a ps2 connection, the mouse has a USB (and a PS2 adapter). A strange think, when I remove the driver of the mouse (in safe mode) and branch it on the PS2 connection, then boot into normal windows, the mouse don't work any more because windows install the driver for the USB Connection :(

    Any other suggestion?

    Thanks for your help.

Does it have a model number printed on it?
Maybe the 5.5 drivers you are installing are for a later model.
You could check if there is any information or troubleshooting procedures at Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1
    http://support.microsoft.com/ph/8506

I think I know your frustration. I have had some fierce battles with MS mouse drivers. They eventually installed after removing and rerunning the driver installation many times.

Are you working in the Keyboard section of Control Panel? It may be better than Device Manager.

    Thanks Matt for your reply.

In fact I've checked the links you provide, but unfortunately, I didn't find anything that is interesting. I've also posted a thread on a newsgroup on support.microsoft.com, but nobedy answered me.

I don't know if there is some adapter so I can branch the keyboard on usb an not ps/2, may be like this windows try to download a new driver. I'll check this, and if it doesn't work, I'll reinstall Windows :(

Thanks very much for your help.

    Rami.
