My WME system has been getting this blue screen for a couple of months:
    VMM(01) + 0000D2A3 Error: 0E : 0028 : C000E2A3
Always this exact error. I have tracked it down to the E-mail Scanner in AVG. If I disable the Scanner plug-in right after booting then the error does not occur. I can re-activate the Scanner just before opening Outlook Express and AVG scans my e-mail just fine but then I must disable the Scanner again or the blue screen will occurr. The AVG guys say that I must re-install my WME so I have been getting ready to do that. I have the drivers and I used Windows Update Catalogue to d/l all the updates. My questions are:
    1. In what order do I install the Updates?
    2. I do not want to install the .NET update. What other Updates should not be installed if .NET is not installed?

    Thanks

ECS Duron 800, WME w/all updates, AVG, ZoneAlarm

    Hi olduser,

Unless you're having problems with either the OS or other applications, a lazy answer from AVG

How about un installing AVG? Clean it out - meaning go after registry entries as well as files, then re installing it.

If you really want to re install the OS:
    By the posted date.
I can't think of anything else - its been a long time since I've used ME.

    Regards - Charles

I agree with Charles. If your system is running really well apart from this minor bug, why not work around it. Startup/bootup, go to your emails, then disable the AVG scan. A complete reinstall will be teadious and as Charles says, probably not warranted. I have worked this way many times...a regimented style, yes, but only takes a few seconds.

Find what is causing it in the meantime.

Well done isolating the cause! :)

I have been getting ready to Re-install WME for quite some time. My idea of using the Update files from Windows Update Catalogue turned out to be a real nightmare. There are many more files than are necessary, like Media Player 6.4, 7.1 and 9 are included. Also the Posted Date can not be used as the sequence to install because many of the updates had their Posted Date changed numerous times so it takes quite a bit of research to determine just what the Update sequence should be. As I was checking the contents of the Update files I came across an Update that was NOT installed. It should have been installed years ago as I have run Windows Update many times. Q816093 would have updated JIT.DLL to 2/28/03 but my system still had the original WME timestamp. As my Blue Screen was saying VMM(0) and Q816093 was for the Virtual Machine, I went ahead and installed it. The install went just fine and after a couple of days I noticed that my Blue Screen problem with the AVG e-mail Scanner was gone. I am no longer disabling the Scanner after booting and my system is now running just fine.

The support deadline for W98 and WME was July 11. But I can still go to Windows Update to get updates. Does anyone know how long Windows Update will be available to get old Updates for WME?
