    Hi, Kittie Cat.

I'm sorry. I must say I'm a bit confused. Can you provide more specifics?
    • Are you trying to upload an image to a forum post? If so, where?
    • Are you trying to upload an image from your hard drive to a web site? If so, what website? What web browser are you using?

If you can provide exact steps you follow and what software is used, I think you're more likely to get a helpful response. (It may allow us to try to reproduce the problem on our machines.)

    (my bold color emphasis added)

I'm not sure exactly what you're describing.

    Ok, lets see..

For instance I'm on MySpace and I want to pick a new photo for my page... you click the "upload" button on MySpace and a window opens with your computer drives etc in it... you go to the folder where the image is, open it up to pick the photo and BAM, it closes the whole browser (Firefox).

NOW, I did try and right-click save a photo last week on some site (probably google image) and it made this loud noise and blocked me from doing it... I'm not sure if that occurance had anything to do what is happening now but I can't figure it out... I've ran spyware, virusware etc and cannot find anything wrong.

It seems to only happen on MySpace too.. .but it always worked before the right-click incident...

    Hi, Kittie Cat.

    Thanks for clarifying.

I'm not a registered MySpace user so, unfortunately, I'm not able to try to reproduce your browser exit problem.

A couple questions come to mind though.

Is your Firefox unmodified or are you using any extensions? If you're using any Firefox extensions, perhaps one or more of them is interfering with Firefox. If you have any extensions installed, maybe you could try uninstalling them one at a time to see if the problem disappears.

Another possibility is a bug with Firefox 1.5.0.6 (assuming that's the version you have installed). The 1.5.0.6 update was released fairly recently.

My suspicion right now is it may be an issue with Firefox and/or MySpace instead of Windows XP.

Have you tried uploading an image to your MySpace page with another browser (Internet Explorer or Opera)?

Now it's not just MySpace, if I try and click any image to save to disk, it closes the WHOLE browser down..

Has no one had this issue???

    TIA!

Please, can someone help fix this? I cannot save ANY images by right-clicking, even my own! When I try the window comes up for me to pick the directory and then as soon as I pick where it goes, BAM it shuts down the whole window. I've tried in both IE and Firefox.

Please, any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

    Hi, Kittie Cat.

Thanks for trying it with IE. Since it doesn't appear to be an issue with Firefox, then I'm at a loss as to what to suggest aside from using System Restore to restore your system to a stable state it was in before you started experiencing your right-click problem.

Have you tried using System Restore to get your system stable again?

EDIT: System Restore is accessible as follows:
Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

The only other thing I can think of right now is the possibility you have "malware" on your system that's interfering with your right-click/save.

If you want to be certain you don't have malware on your system, please follow the instructions in this link.

EDIT #2: Once you have pasted your HijackThis log in this thread, send a private message to TeMerc with a reference to this thread. Then, if he sees evidence of malware, he'll probably move this thread to the Removing Spyware & Viruses forum and begin showing his magical prowess. :)

You're welcome, Crysti. I'm glad to help! :)

BTW, be sure you also run an online scan as suggested in those instructions I linked. The malware removal experts will appreciate you following all their instructions to the letter ('cept for typos). :)

Also, be sure you place the extracted hijackthis.exe file into a folder on your hard drive rather than your desktop before you run it. For example, in Windows Explorer, create a folder called HijackThis in the root of your hard drive (i.e., C:\HijackThis\ or C:\HJT\).

You can create a folder in Windows Explorer as follows:
    • Navigate to your root (C:) folder.
    • Click on "File" in the upper left corner of Windows Explorer.
    • Select New > Folder
    • Type HijackThis (or HJT) for the folder name.
    • Hit the "Enter" key.

I wish you luck! I'll be watching this thread with interest. :)

    Thanks again!

I did all of the above and I couldn't PM him with the log, it was too long... it said in the other post to post in in the Security Area and someone will look at it.... so I did.. I hope that is ok! It wouldn't fit in a PM.

    Cross your fingers! :)

OK. I suggest you include a link to this thread in your HJT log post then. :) It will help them understand your situation AND they'll know what things you have already tried.

    Good luck!

Whoops! Yes you did! :) Sorry 'bout that. I didn't check your HJT post before I posted.

Looks like you have a lot of anti-malware stuff already running too :), so your system might be clean after all (which would be both good and bad news, I know).

Another thing I'm thinking is you might have some memory-resident anti-malware that's competing for control over protecting your computer.

I'm just stabbing in the dark now though. We'll wait for more knowlegeable people to offer suggestions.

    Intermediate Tinkerer out! :)

BTW, for those following this thread, here's a link to Kittie Cat's HJT log.

Well, I JUST put on AVG because the stupid Mcafee ran out and I can't get it off my computer! The other one, AdAware I've had for awhile, and the other 2 I downloaded tonight... I don't think there is anything else on here... I wish I could get rid of the McAfee but it won't let me!

We'll see... I'm at work tomorrow so I will see what someone has to say tomorrow night!

    Thanks for all your help!!

    A long shot ....

Do you have Content Advisor (Tools > Internet Options > Content) enabled? If so disable it.

I don't have that in Firefox... I never use IE, it's just on here... there is an OPTIONS but not "Content "....

    Hi, Crysti.

Hmmmm... I assume you also tried to uninstall McAfee via Add or Remove Programs.

Perhaps you can create a System Restore point and then reboot into Safe Mode and uninstall McAfee while in Safe Mode?

This is another long shot but perhaps McAfee is related to your image pick/save issue.

Well I must have done something wrong with uninstalling it, WHAT ... I do not know because when I go to Add/Remove it says some components are missing and cannot uninstall.... And the McAfee was on this when I bought it, the file picker thing just started awhile back... so I don't think there is a connection... It honestly started when I tried to right-click a photo online and a block came up saying "do not right-click" and then I tried it again and that is where the trouble began... could it have planted something on my computer???
