    Hi Folks,

I was having trouble with the CPU (Intel Pentium 4, 3.2 GHz) getting over heated and would not cool down any more. So I dismantled hoping to clean it if there was any dust or dirt causing this, but it was clean as a whistle and as I remounted it, a pin broke and that was the end of it. Tragedy being that it was just out of the 24 month guarantee period. So I purchased a new one which was delivered after 14 days. Now having replaced it, I am having an exasperating problem that the internet connection keeps going off and on again, all by itself.

I came across an article in the internet which suggested:
VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter | Properties | Advanced | Type of Connection | and change from Auto Negotiation to a lower speed. Mine was set at 100 Base T x Half Duplex, so I set it to 10 Full Duplex. (As it said all components may not be customised to accept a higher speed).

This did not work nor did any other of the 5 Settings. The problem is critical as my ISDN phone lines (MSN "“ main subscriber lines) are also integrated through the router and the phones do not work either.

This situation continues to exist, and hope you may have a solution to fix it.

I am connected over the a Router named FRITZ BOX FON WLAN 7050

    Thanks - Rista

I think it very unlikely that the internet problem has anything to do with your change of CPU. I expect that it is just a coincidence that the two problems have occurred at the same time.

The problem lies in your router or phone line. First try turning the router off for a few minutes and then switch it back on. Also check your cables. It might be worth checking AVM site to see if there is a firmware update available for your router. The other possibility is that there is a line fault on your ISDN line. I'd get on to your telecomms provider to ask them to test the line.

When you replaced the cpu, you likely removed cables from ports on back of comp. Check the net cable ends.

    Hi,

Thanks for your replies. I came to the same conclusion this morning as I noticed the lights on the Router going on and off while the computer was off. That made me pretty sure that fault was not the in the computer, but somewhere outside it, in the Router itself. I have a new new Sinus 154 SE which I never got to using after changing the provider. I simply took off the Fritz Box and replaced it with this one. After jongling with the connections, configuration and setting up the telephone system independently, I got it all blazing again!

ReggieB, you hit the nail bang on the head, and many thanks to both of you for the suppport.

Warm (better cool!) regards - Rista
