    I have one computer that suddenly quit executing the autorun.inf file on a CD that I made. It was working OK but suddenly stopped. Other CDs with autorun files work, and this CD works on other computers.

    O/S is Windows xp Home

    Burned another CD and same results.

    Autorun.inf file contents:
    [autorun]
    open=shellexe.exe index1.htm

    shellexe.exe is in the root directory of the CD

    verify that the comp has a default browser set. For IE, open Internet Options & put a check next to "IE should check to see it its the default browser...or some such txt ". Close ie & restart ie.

    Wasn't the answer

    Thanks for the suggestion TonyT.

    ie was not set as the default browser so I thought that would do it, but it didn't. I even rebooted the computer and tried after selecting ie as the default.

    Since my original posting and now, my other 2 computers are doing the same thing. Made me wonder about the disk, so I made another and same result. I haven't changed the autorun.inf file. Any suggestions about that scernio?

    Found problem with other computers

    While trying to work through this I found the problem with the other computers. It was a "me" problem that isn't really software or hardware related.

    I still have the initial problem.

    autoplay works differently with different operating systems. I have been able to autorun the default browser for html docs on a cd using an app called browsercall.exe and an autorun.inf file. Hasn't failed me yet. ShellExecute (shellexe.exe) is not reliable.

    Thanks TonyT

    That sounds like a good way to go. I'll give it a try :)
