My XP Pro system, which runs for about 10-12 hours a day, has suddenly stopped switching off my Philips CRT monitor. It was set to turn off the screen after 20 minutes, and it's done this for years, but the function has abruptly become 'non-functional'.

I've tried changing the settings but nothing makes a difference. Anyone have a clue as the cause of this?

    Thanks.

Try turning all the settings for the monitor back to there orginal ones and restart your computer. When it boots back up put the settings back to the ones you need to turn your monitor off at the same time as your computer and do a complete shut down. If it works simply switch your computer back on and try it again, if it works again then you know that it will work. Hope you get it to work.

Lipsum1992, thanks for your tip. I'll archive it for future use.

I actually managed to fix the problem, albeit by means of a typically weird Windows fiddle; I simply turned the screensaver ON.

Now the monitor shuts down, as required. But, get this - the screensaver DOESN'T kick in.

No wonder Bill Gates is getting out of the business........

Thanks for your help. Perhaps I should try your routine, anyway, and see if I can shock the thing back to its base function. Then again, it's doing what it's supposed to so maybe I should tiptoe away and leave it alone :p
