    Basic internet 101

Before email evolved to the point where it counld be sent as HTML it was all very simply text based.

On every forward it would add > to the begining of each line. Among other things this allowed you to identify where along the trail of recipients various comments were added.

Can you control it - not really - it is a function of the different systems the message went through each time it was forwarded. - There might be a way to mask them on your own display, but that is not something I can address because I don't know what you are using for email, nor would I try.

    I stand (partly) Currected.

    Based on Steve's POST

I feel its safe to assume he was refering to Outlook or Outlook Express.

Apparently you can keep the program from adding them TO MESSAGES THAT YOU forward.

(not even 5am yet and I've learned something...)

Mine is already set on plane text. Now that i realize it has a porpoise, I think I like those >. It does help "to identify where along the trail of recipients various comments were added." Thanks, Chris.

P.S. Don't worry about failing Basic internet 101, we all can learn something. :)

    Chris?
I believe Steve R Jones meant for you to go into your plain text settings...there's an option there to turn those ">'s" off in there.

Chris. Daizy is right about checking the box that creates the >. What I do is send this same info (the path to get to the settings) to people who send me mail that has them in the mail they send me. I usually just send a friendly letter asking them to undo that feature, as it is very annoying and just takes up more space than is really needed to send the mail. A lot of people don't realize they have that feature checked. It's usually set up as a default. And, yes, you are talking about Outlook Express, but I think that feature can still be found in other e-mail clients as well. They would just have to look in their settings to find it.

    Good luck.

    :)
