I am plagued by the Winantispyware, SpyDoctor, and Drive Cleaner popups. I am also getting a regular Online Casino popup. Also, when I go to any web page I have linked text that if moused-over includes an advert search window. Please help. Here is my current hijack this log file. Any help would be appreciated!!

    Welcome to WindowsBBS Forums.

What you have is a Vundo infection, we have a specific fix for it, please do as instructed below.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    • Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
    • You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
    • When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
    • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
    • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
    • Turn your computer back on.
    • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

OK, lets first off fix a couple of minor items and get some more system info.

Below you will find my results and recommendations. Please read ALL instructions carefully BEFORE proceeding.

Run Hijackthis and look over the following entries I have listed, check the boxes next to them and press the "Fix Checked" button with HijackThis. When you are doing this, make sure you have No IE windows, or other browsers open, including this one. Reboot if I have specified below, and post a fresh HijackThis log.

Reboot your machine and then do as instructed below please.

Please generate a startup list using HJT. And please check the 2 boxes next to the 'Generate Startuplist' button:
    List also minor sections (full)
    List empty sections (complete)

    And:
    Download combofix.exe
    • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Then please post both the HJT start up list along with the ComboFix log.

OK, out of all that output, there are two files, one I'm certain is rogue the other I'd like you to run thru an online scanner to verify.

    1) Please download the Killbox.
Save it to the desktop and run it.

    2) Select "Delete on Reboot ", and then select "All files ".

    3) Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\pqhzxjenac.exe

    4) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard ".

    5) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

    Reboot your system.

Please go to http://virusscan.jotti.org , click on Browse, and upload the following file for analysis:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\streamhlp.dll<<<--this file

Then click Submit. Allow the file to be scanned, and then please copy and paste the results here for me to see.

Be patient as this site is usually very busy.

Then please post the results from the Jotti scan and a fresh HJT log file and let me know what if any problems you are experiencing.

Still getting text links in on my web pages, still getting popup "click-me" ads, but first time to your site I didn't get Win and SpyDoctor annoyances.

OK, lets run ComboFix again, see if it finds another file or two.

Now with regards to the popups you're still getting, are they for the same type of products? A specific website perhaps? Let me know.

And for the underlined text this could be part of some search engine feature, lets get a log of what's in your add\remove section.

    Run Hijackthis.
    • Click on "Open the Misc Tools section ".
    • Next click on "Open uninstall manager ".
    • Press the button 'save list'. It will open a Notepad file.
    • Place the content of that file here in your in your next post.

I am still getting SpyDoctor and WinAntivirus. The pops are varied. I do get an online casino titled "Online Casino" and then when click to close I get another casino called "Best Gambling Spot ". The other pops are for windows titled "Click-Me... ". They are for varied sites Linel.com (some linen site), even some reputable ads. I have tried to rid them with Scan Spyware and AVG (my usual repellent). I also have used other reputable aps (as you can see from my logs), as reccomended by geeks.com. The text link in my web page is very annoying! That gives a window at mouse over that explains an advert. My system is also running slow and shutting down when system scans on Spyware and AVG are run. Next thread will be HJT Log.

    Here is new ComboFix Log:

OK, we're going to do a couple of things here. It's good that file is showing in HJT as both a running process and an 04.

    DL Autoruns from here

Save the file to your desktop.

Then open your task manager and see if this process is running:
    C:\windows\system32\pqhzxjenac.exe

If so press the 'End Task' button.

Open the zip and double-click 'autoruns', select 'run' when prompted.
This will open the tool and it will scan, should not take more than 30 seconds or so.

Once completed, look at the section:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\curr entversion\run

    Look for:
    C:windows\\system32\\pqhzxjenac.ex

Right-click the entry, select 'Delete'. Close Autoruns.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [pqhzxjenac] c:\windows\system32\pqhzxjenac.exe pqhzxjenac

Reboot, into safe mode, this way:
    Turn on the computer
Immediately begin tapping the <F8> key.
Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the <Enter> key.

Also, enable the 'Show Hidden Folders' option, like this:
    Click Start.
    Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    Click Yes to confirm.
    Click OK.

And search for, then delete, if found, (some may not be present after previous steps) the following files/folders:
    c:\windows\system32\pqhzxjenac.exe<<<--this file

To exit Safe Mode, click the Start button, click Turn Off Computer, click Restart.

Post a new HJT log back into this thread please.

Also let me know what pop ups you're getting if any.

I also need that HJT uninstall lost please.

OK, your last log file looked clean. And you're saying there are no more pop ups which is good.

Now with regards to Intellitext style links, those are installed by webmasters to try and generate revenue and would only show up on those sites which employ that style of ads.

Are you saying that they show up on every single page you visit? Let me know please.

And it's obvious by your uninstall list, there are very young children using the PC. Kinda looks like my sons uninstall list too!! Lot of the same CDs installed.

I didn't see anything out of the ordinary, tho there was 1 questionable anti-spyware tool, ScanSpyware. I would dump that if I were you. Just do so via Add\Remove then delete all folders. It's just not one of the more popular apps.

You can see what myself and others have to say about it:
    http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/scanspyware.net?ref=safesearch&aff_id=0

I just added my own two cents so users won't have to go to the Rogue page.

Let me know about the links.

Ok - better surfing! I was having linked text on all pages until yesterday. Some were yellow links and some were green. The green is the Intellitxt. The others were part of my plagued problem it seems. I was having the links as well as search engine changes. When I'd search in google the top searches would come up and then suddenly adjust to advert top searches. The new tops wouldn't even be my search related. Also, winbuyer popup with this. I'm not sure what corrected it all but it is better now. Crashes are also seem better. My CPU Usage isn't spiking. Thank you!

Glad to hear everything is as it should be.

For anti-spyware related recommendations, read below.

We have 3 more things to do, to help ensure you have removed all the little 'leftovers' which may be hiding:

Empty the TIF (Temporary Internet Files)
Delete all the files in (and any subfolders of) the C:\Windows\Temp folder
The app below will help with temp files.
    Index.dat Suite

Also, delete all your cookies, and empty your recycle bin. But remember, by deleting your cookies, you will have to re-enter any passwords and log-in info for any sites you are usually required to do so with.

This would also be a good time to set a new system restore point for your machine.
Set New System Restore Point. Do not do this unless there are no other user accounts to be diagnosed.

Also, as you are an XP user, if there are any other accounts on this machine, they too, must be cleaned with AdAware, Spybot S&D, then HJT. Not all infections are global, nor are all the HJT fixes global. You can post each user account here into this thread, but please, do only one at a time to avoid confusion.

Here is a link which describes how security apps work with WIN XP machines.
XP User Accts Security Apps Operation

Now that you have regained control of your machine, lets keep it clean. Please follow the links below to ensure the highest possible level of protection against any further invasions. The links and the apps are some of the most highly regarded apps in the field of security/protection & detection. Run AdAware & Spybot at least once a week, depending on your surfing habits.
    Spybot Search & Destroy v1.4
    Ad-Aware SE Free v1.06r

With AdAware and Spybot: DL, install then check for updates, then scan, repair/remove/quarantine anything found. Reboot before next scan with whichever app is next.

SpywareBlaster will prevent known ActiveX installs, by setting killbits into the registry.
With Spyware Blaster, just DL, check for updates, enable Internet Explorer protection, and your done! I don't recommend using 'Restricted Sites' protection in SpywareBlaster nor the 'Immunize' feature in Spybot, you can get far greater coverage with IE-SPYADs, listed below.

To avoid known malware infested sites from loading in IE install IE-SPY ADS.
And MVPS Hosts File will provide another layer of protection.

And to prevent unknown applications from being installed on your machine install WinPatrol v10.0.10.

Another thing I would suggest, is to install SiteAdvisor. It gives sites a few different 'ratings' and while not fool proof, a good additional layer of information about many sites.

Tutorials for all can be found on my site as well.

Confused about which apps are good or not? Read about Rogue/Approved Anti Security apps

And just because you have security apps installed, they are useless unless updated regularly. Keep track of updates for ALL your security needs here:
    Calendar of Updates

Subscribe to update alerts for all the above security apps here.

You can also see my own ongoing security testing with all the above apps proving how securely you can safe with them installed.

    Happy surfing!
