    How do you get rid of the Windows XP Welcome screen, the one that shows my name preceded by a chess icon? I am the only user of this PC, always have to click on my name and then Windows completes its start up. I never had to do this with other PCs I've had. Thanks.

    Hi.

    Shouldn't be a problem: go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->User Accounts.
    On its main screen, go to "Change the users log on or off ". There you'll find the option of "Use the Welcome Screen ". Just uncheck the box near to it.
    ood luck.

    Not to revive a dead topic, but it sounds more like you're having troubles with the .NET framework 1.1. Following the guide above will make you log in using the old style logon window (think win98 without a profile, or win2k) If you install .NET 1.1 your windows account will no lnoger automatically log on. There is an update for .NET 1.1 for sp1 or greater which fixes the problem.

    Otherwise, if that doesn't work, you can google tweakUI and set up an automatic logon under the logon category.

    This is a link to the .NET framework 1.1 SP1 update: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...4F-088E-40B2-BBDB-A83353618B38&displaylang=en

    Bypassing Welcome Screen

    Hi,
    its vulnerable to bypass welcome screen, i don't suggest to use this option but as you don't wants it you may either use standard method of login by hitting CTL+ALT+DEL , start->settings->control panels->administrative tools->Local Security Policy->SEcurity Options->Interactive Logon:do not require CTL+ALT+DEL --(Change the value to ENABLE)

    HTH
    Regards

    Bypassing welcome screen

    Thank you for your suggestions. The answer that worked for me was:

    Start-Run and type control userpasswords2 and click ok.
    Select/highlight the user account from the list that you want to always logon with.
    Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" and click ok.
    Type the user account password (if there is one) and complete the process.

    Once I rebooted it no longer displayed the Windows welcome blue screen.
