opened another "whole office filter" today - I mean computer. we had bought a bunch of cheap basic systems that where amd's the processor fans keep going bad in them - about 7 machines. they say right on top of them ball bearing but I finally popped one apart and it is a bushing. - get what you pay for and less

    anybody else seen this?

I have never cracked open a stock fan to see if it has a ball-bearing or a bushing, but I do make it a point to replace the heat sink and fans on all my AMD computers. They run way too hot to use some generic POS HS-fan combo. Check out the link above. They have good prices and amazing customer service.

Sam-I haven't cracked any fans but this is just to say that I not long ago built an AMD 1.2 and used the h/s fan that came in the box with the tape(no fancies). It's running at about 120deg. F.(bout 49C) with full load(distributed computing). I understand that that isn't too bad, but I read somewhere that the life of the processor is proportional to the heat at which it runs. I just ordered a MCXC370 SWIFTEC from newegg.com -the one with the copper base-because of good reviews I have read. It's enroute so can't comment on it's performance personally. If it lives up to reviews, should take temps down bout 15deg C . Fan has all bearings and no sleeves.

www.cyberguys.com has something called a Leva-fan. Supposedly the fan shaft is suspended in the shaft and doesn't actually make contact with anything while running.

If this is true, it might be the best design in fans possible.

    thank you

I will look at all your sugestions. right now I have been replacing them with ones I can get local and havent had too many problems with them yet. yes the amd do run very hot although we have meny of them and I have not had any of them fail from overheating (yet). they just start to run very inconstitantly while they are hot.

Even the cheesy stock CoolerMaster fans that come standard on all AMD processors should give you years of carefree service. To have multiple cpu fan failures, I'm sorry, but they must be beyond cheap! Who are you buying these systems from? I think you need to re-evaluate your vendor if you're getting parts of this caliber.
