cant import bookmarks to Netscape 8.1

    Hi,
I upgraded form Netscape 8 to 8.1. The wizard asked me if i wanted to import bookmarks but only lets me do this from Netscape 7. I did this and now I have the old bookmarks from netscape 7 but not from Netscape 8. I think these bookmarks must be in the memory somewhere but i dont know where to find them or how to imort them. can anyone help?

I normally work directly from the bookmarks.html file. It you do the copying/pasting of the file, it will replace the existing file, but I have never tried to import.I tried to do that, and NS8 imported the personal toolbar from my old 7.2 file (I selected to import from File), and nothing else.So much for a 53Kb file. I have no longer NS7.2, but had kept the profile.

Just upgraded from Netscape 8 to 8.1. It didnt move over my bookmarks using the wizard as it only prompted for netscape 7 bookmarks. I am sure the bookmarks still exist somewhere. I have managed to find bookmarks in the Mozilla file as a html doc but this is my old Netscape 7 bookmarks. There is a BAK file called- bookmarks.html.sbsd.bak. Can ayone tell me if this contains the info I want and how to open it, if so? If my bookmarks have been deleted can I use system restore to go back in time and recover them?

    Welcome to the Forum, amp!

    amp,

I have merged the two threads which you started, as they both pertain to the same subject...

Your current bookmarks.html file should still be in the:
    ...\Application Data\Netscape\NSB\Profiles\12345678.profilename folder.

It's always beneficial to backup the Profiles folder before upgrading, or editing any browser. Especially NS 8.1, as it is quite troublesome, and certainly a far cry from the old Netscape we all came to love. This is an AOL browser, and is in no way connected to the Mozilla organization.

You can use WordPad to open the bookmarks.html.sbsd.bak file. If it is the correct file, then delete the ".sbsd.baK" and then rename any other bookmarks.html file to Xbookmarks.html. NS 8.1 will then use this file.

Final advice to the wise, switch to Firefox. ;)
