How to uninstall IE6 SP2/OE problems

Hello. I want to uninstall and reinstall Internet Explorer 6 SP2 but the thing is, my version of windows is an OEM version, plus SP2 already came with it so there is no uninstall option in the add/remove settings of the control panel. Unfortunately, this computer didn't come with a Windows XP CD because XP was already preinstalled. See the problem I'm having is that everytime I go to send/receive a message in Outlook Express, the program stalls and says, "Outlook Express has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. To see what data this error report contains, click here ". Then when I do that, this shows up: "Error Signature - AppName: msimn.exe, AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180, ModName: kernel32.dll, ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180, Offset: 0001861d ". How can I fix this? Any input would be extremely appreciative. Thank you for your time.

 

Are the folders quite full or have large e-mails in them? Especially the Inbox or the Sent box?

 

I have already cleared them and started a whole new profile and the same thing happens.

 

Thank you for the advice. I did go to the Repair Kit link and still ... no avail. I even reinstalled SP2 and it still is giving me the same problem. Where do I go from here considering I can't reinstall Windows XP since it's an OEM version (like I previously said, it came preinstalled with no CD)?

 

I have never understood what MS means when they say "reinstall SP2 ". It is easy enough to go to the SP2 download site,

ignore the warnings, download it and then click on the downloaded file.
I have never done it so do not know what happens next. Does it just reinstall? Do you get a message saying you already have SP2 installed or a variation saying that you have a more modern version installed? Or?

hyperrush--FWIW--You might try calling your PC maker and ask if they would sell you a complete XP SP2 CD. Many companies will--for about $10 when you have proof you bought the PC from them.
With the CD you might be able to use the suggestions here though theoretically they are for SP1.

PeteC--My sentiments exactly. But "Reinstall SP2" is what MS recommends for fixing IE/OE in the link you provide.

just ignore what MS says for SP2 and make recommendations like sfc /scannow and IE.inf regardless of SP1 or SP2. I have always wondered if those fixes work for SP2. Of course a WinXP CD (or a I386 folder with Win XP files and with appropriate SourcePath settings in the Registry) is needed to use them.
So far I have, thank heaven, not had the need to try.
