I am trying to create a new zip folder in XP Pro for the purpose of passwrod protecting a group of files and folders. The folder is physically created just fine, but when I try to cut and paste files/folders into the folder I receive the following message: "The Compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or corrupted ". Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

How did you create the "zip folder?"

Normally, in Windows Explorer, you would click on File->New Folder

I use "My Computer ", but otherwise I establish the folder in the way you suggested File / New...

Following your instructions to drag and drop NOT cut and paste appears to have solved my dilema. Thanks so much to both responders.:) :) :)

I tried it, and although it gives the error, everything appears to be correct. I can open the folder & open individual files...

Only thing is that the 'cut' files are not deleted from the original location.
