My son is trying to tell me that Yahoo E-mail is not safe and that they are the worst at collecting private information from my computer.

He is so concerned that he says he is going to install anther computer "a cheap one " or at least another Hard drive just for his E-mails.

My Question is can he be right or is he Barking up the wrong tree? He says that he can prove to me that Yahoo can get access to my private stuff like Banking.

He has had me promise to use Yahoo and then turn off my computer then run CCleaner and /or disk cleaner before going to my banking sites

Should this be a concern for me? loonychoons

loonychoons--Half an answer. I have a Yahoo email account and membership in some Yahoo Groups. No problems. I even have a yahoo.com cookie.
On the other hand, I do not use Yahoo Toolbar. And I have a fistful of anti-malware programs installed that should stop "baddies" from entering my HD.
I also see a lot of HiJackThis files with something like "redclient.yahoo.com" in the R0 and R1 entries. (I am almost sure that is not accurate. You could look into the HiJackThis forum here.)
Usually these people have problems. It may be the Toolbar.
    Here is some more info

    Hi Jim:

How are you? I should Know by now that you will be quick on the draw., with some more helpful advise like always.

Thank you for your info and your advise, I do not have a Yahoo Tool Bar. So if that helps keep out the Baddies all for good. I also do not plan on any offered Tool Bars.

I use Google for my searches and it is also my Home page.I have two sons and it was the younger of the two that was concerned, but the older one said that maybe I misunderstood his Brother?

The older Boy said that Yahoo could just tell where I had Visited, so if it showed someone my Bank Web Site or maybe My Credit Union Web site. Then then would know just what phony site just might work on me or someone else.

You know a message like this is " NAME OF MY CREDIT UNION" and we have misplaced you Account #s And Oh Ya and please give us your Password just for safekeeping???? Believe or not some people are fooled sometimes.

I think that I will be careful in my Web Surfing , and Just watch where I go And have been. Your Friend Lenny

    Where's my tin-foil hat

That's called phising, and its done by sending millions of messages to every unimaginable email address they can think up... Ever found it strange you get these messages from banks you have no account with? Ebay? I don't have no stinking ebay account, yet they want to 'suspend' my account 3 times a day :D Well... be my guest!

    Hi Arie:

Actually no I do not get any bogus E-mails? at least not like you guys are talking about? Maybe I should thank Yahoo for that,If I get the odd one say, to buy a Stocks or Viagra, I indicate to Yahoo that it is Spam and I never see it again.

Or maybe it is my Stainless Steel Hat, With triple redundant Ground lines?? Ha Ha Ha.

Arie, I do have a question. When I sign out or log off from WindowsBBS I get the following Message "I have Copied and Pasted it here "
    ----------------------------
    vBulletin Message
    All cookies cleared!

Return to the page you were previously viewing
    Go to forums index
    -----------------------------
I notice that when I then ,Go to my REGSEEKER and then Pick Histories and Cookie removal. I see in the list Cookies that say { owner@windowsbbs.com } or something like that listed. Is this normal or should they have been cleared when I signed off?

To be honest I have no idea. Cookies NEVER bothered me, and this stuff is all done using commercial software, so I haven't got a clue.

Probably not what you want to hear....

If I'm guessing: it could be an old cookie? Or maybe 'clearing' the cookie means that it writes an empty cookie... maybe the software can not actually delete a cookie on your machine... Again, just guessing, have no clue about cookies.

I only get some on my ISP email, I have switched off spam filtering there, but I get nothing from my own servers email... Spam is quite low at the moment on our server... 2% (that's being filtered. Average for this week is 7%.

Thanks for the info. Arie. The Cookies do not bother me as I now run REGSEEKER & CCleaner more and more often. So they do not last past each of my computer sessions.

I also checked my Yahoo E-mail settings, and found that I have been getting Yahoo just to delete anything that they consider might be Spam.
