I have 3 PC's on my LAN. I can ping out, but I can't ping in. Is there a port I need to forward on the router in order to ping my main PC from the outside?

Echo has been allowed and both the anti-virus & firewall were disabled. Still no luck!

Could you give more details ?

For example, what is your IP scheme on your LAN ? private or public ?

    Hi Jason,

It's private. All pc's have IP addesses of 192.168.1.? . Only the router has a public IP address. That's why I thought that the router might need to forward a port.

    Ok,

Because it is private IP address, you can't ping it from outside, otherwise, there will be a trouble.

If you want people access your computer inside, there are several ways you can try, but it depends on what kind of router you are using.

1, You can setup DMZ map to one of your machine. From outside, this machine looks like it "has" the public IP address in your router.
    2. Map some specific service to specific computer. i.g. map web service to computer #1, FTP to computer #2 ...
3, If you have powerful router, you can apply NAT

This option might be provided by your router. Not sure if this is what your looking for. My Netgear WGT624 has this option in the WAN settings. I do NOT have it ticked, as it would defeat my "stealth" presence on the Internet... at least that is how I interpret the option.

    Jason,

Your recommendation wrt to DMZ opened up the network access to my PC. Unfrortunately, it opens up all my ports. Does Remote Desktop Access come in on a particular port? That would be much nicer for it would only be necessary to forward to that port instead of opening all ports.

    Dennis,

You're right. I've lost my Stealth. C'est la vie!

It really depends on what kind of router you are using.

Yes, DMZ opens all ports. Do you notice my second suggestion?.
    2. Map some specific service to specific computer. i.g. map web service to computer #1, FTP to computer #2 ...
Actually, if you map web service to computer #1, that means you open port 80 to your computer #1, of couse, you can map other service to computer #1 simultaneously.

    Jason,

Problem solved! Was able to follow you suggestion #2.

My immediate concern has been for Remote Desktop Access. Since our last iteration, I found out that RDA uses port 3389. Hence, I was able to disable GMZ and just forward port 3389 to my PC.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
