Hi Im new to forums so ill try my best....

I want to set up a wireless network (in addition to a wired already installed) with two access points but not sure how to set the ap's up. Do i set them to the same channel and ssid? I want to have 1 wireless network and just extend the range. The ap's are not repeaters but connected by ethernet to the main switch.

    Any comments are appreciated

    Thanks

    Suzie

No, SSID should be different so that computers can identify which is which in case of some computers fall into overlap area.

Also, channel/ssid does not have any relationship with network addressing. So, don't worry about it.

Sorry, I was not clear. I want the ap's to have the same ssid and so they will be working togther to extend range. I do not want to have two different ssid's. I am setting this up in my office which has alot of walls and rooms and so the signal seems to dwindle. need to know if they need to be on the same channel

In this case, I don't think two APs are better than one. You can try one first, if the signal strength is really an issue, then try to strenthen the signal by changing a better AP or lengthening the antenna for either AP or computers.

If you have already had two APs, you may put them in two areas to shorten the distance between AP and computers, this is another way to make signal stronger.

If the two AP are in the same area, you need to set the channels so that they are at least 3 channels seperating them. If you don't they will interfer with each other's signal.

This is the factor that limits the number of access points in any one area.

    Thanks for that!!

Can I use the same ssid? And if so, will the computers recognize 2 ssid's (networks) or just one?

    Again, Thanks for the replys!!!!
