Hi everybody, this is my first post so I hope it goes ok. Ill put my PC spec in first then go over the problem.

    Advent t9003 Desktop PC
Running Windows home service pack 2
    Processor Description Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz, 3207MHz
    Total Memory 512MB
    Total Hard Drive 250GB
    BIOS Version AWARD - 42302e31 Phoenix - Award BIOS v6.00PG Phoenix - Award BIOS v6.00PG oN661FX-M7 Ver: 1.0b 11/25/2004
Ati radeon and Sapphire radeon graphics dual graphics card

Sorry if I have forgotten something important.

I have had the PC about a year now. It was shop bought and factory installed. I had the odd BSOD from day one but they were so few and only didn’t seem to have a pattern at the time. I investigated areas I thought could cause it and ultimately they just stopped happening. Then about 3 months ago I would get stop errors and hangs during everything, CD burning music playing watching DVDs. All the error messages seem to refer to driver error. I went thru every driver and updated where I could but it seemed to make no difference. System restore did not work (and still doesn’t) and I was getting the strangest of symptoms. My media players would not recognise when I changed a Disc. I would have to close the programme and restart it. In the end I had 3 or 4 successive BSOD and I was forced to reinstall to factory settings, a utility that Advent built in rather than using back up discs. Since doing this I felt it was ok. I reinstalled the anti virus and bang another blue screen, this time generating a stop error 0x000000de. When it rebooted it generated another straight away, this time the old favourite 0x0000008e. I uninstalled the antivirus (which was E-Trust) and reinstalled Norton. During the live update it was unable to update virus definitions. When I clicked on the shortcut I got another BSOD stop error 0x0000008e. I’m starting to feel that this will never be solved. I don’t want to take it to a repairer as I have none near me that I know and trust, Id rather figure it out and fix it here. Any suggestions would be great. If you need more info I am happy to oblige. I am trying to gather together the dump logs to post at this time

    Update on Crashes

dont know if this is usefull or not, but i recently reinstalled Norton antivirus (better to have than not) but i am unable to run any type of Anti virus scan without it causing the critical error and Blue screening me. every error always points me to a driver issue but i am now totally stuck for what to do next.
if anyone has any ideas all suggestions are welcome. thanks people. :)

Probably the best thing to do is to go to Microsoft Support Services, and select an option to "open" a support request.

You can use the log file (debuglog.txt) generated to supply the needed information to start your support request.

    End of the line

Thanks for the last advice, unfortunalty i am unable to log a free service call to Microsoft and i cant afford to pay at present to do so. I have already tried using the support option from the pc supplier but their ultimate solution was to reinstall factory settings. This is what i did but it hasnt resolved the issue. it is causing too much of a headache especially as i cannot find the answer so i am going to disconnect at the end of the week and walk away from the whole thing.
thanks for reading my posts all those that have. Much obliged.

    Mandy

I don't know if this will help or not, but I just went through the STOP 0x0000008E errors myself after a reinstall of XP.

My system had been running fine for over a year and I had a problem that resulted in having to reinstall XP, then I started having random 8E stop errors. I found some info where others had the same problem which turned out to be faulty memory. I replaced my system memory with a new 1 gig. stick and haven't had the problem since. If you are getting the 8E stop it may be worth a try.

Thanks for the advice. As soon as i have purchased a new stick and tested The system with it i will return and let you know how it went.
again thanks. at least in the good old days when a data entering and storage device went wrong it just meant you needed a new pad and pen.

    happy trails all.
