    Hello,

I have a virus that initially disabled my Task Manager, Run, Find (in windows explorer) and system restore. I enabled the Task Manager by editing the registry, but the same won't work for the rest of the problems. Here is a HijackThis log:

    Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

    Welcome to WindowsBBS Forums.

Sorry for long delay in reply.

Are you saying that the virus iteslf was removed, and all that remains is the task manager, run, find and sys restore?

Your log shows nothing in relation to malware, let me know.

sorry about being un-specific..... When I press windows+R, I get the message "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." Also, Run is missing from my start menu. Also, the Search (or Find) in my Windows Explorer doesn't work- it just won't pop up when I click on it or press ctrl+F. When I try to enable System Restore, it says, "System restore encountered an error trying to enable/disable one or more drives. Please restart your machine and try again."

Those are all the problems currently- before, similar things happened with using the RegEdit program and opening the Task Manager, but I somehow fixed those. I tried fixing the above problems by changing the proper values in the registry, but changing the registry doesn't seem to do anything. Thanks,

ACTUALLY just a few minutes ago I noticed that there's a new user on my computer, Admin, and when I went and changed the registry there all my services started working EXCEPT System Restore.... is there a registry value I need to change for that, or is there another problem? Also, how do I make the user that I'm on an administrator, and remove the user 'admin' from my computer (or should I not do that)?

OK, so I am afraid you still did not say whether or not you removed any virus or worm, please let me know.

In the mean time, lets have a deeper look into your system.

Please generate a startup list using HJT. And please check the 2 boxes next to the 'Generate Startuplist' button:
    List also minor sections (full)
    List empty sections (complete)

    Please download SilentRunners from here

Unzip it to the desktop and double-click on it. If you get any kind of warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run. When the scan is finished, a message will pop up and a logfile will have been created on the desktop.

Please post the entire contents of this logfile created back into this thread for me to see.

Here's the startup list- should I post the entire text file that SilentRunners generated? It's really long.... I did remove a virus, a worm, called vb-ee. Also, I don't know if this is related, but my internet is running extremely slow since this happened.

Very good thanks for telling me this info.

The HJt start up list is not generated with the two buttons ticked as instructed above, but rather at 'Defaullt settings' please re-do that scan with the two bobxes ticked, thanks.

And yes, feel free to post both logs together.

Try these two fixes for task bar and command:

    Command fix:
Go here to Kelly's Korner[ and scroll down to Line 57. Look at the righthand side and click on "Restore the Run Command" to download the file. Once downloaded, doubleclick on it, OK the prompt to merge with your registry and reboot.

    SHUTDOWN FIX
Ok, for your Shutdown problem, try this fix from Kelly's Korner(Restore "Turn Off and Log Off" - Start Menu). Reboot afterwards
