    Hello,

I've been getting following error message when Windows is launching: "Error -- Can't write ESCD ".
The result is that my DVD-RW ROM is not being detected, and I can see a few yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager, for instance at: standart floppy disc controller, built-in infrared device, communication port (com 1) and MPU-401 compatible midi device.
I tried to enable a setting in Bios which is responsible for reseting ESCD but it did not help.
My motherboard is ASUS A7V8X. I did not change any hardware. I only uninstalled a few programs that I no longer needed.

Please, help me get rid of that problem.

Maybe it has something to do with the BIOS - however, a few years ago I installed an update and there is no non-beta version available ever since.

Today the problem hasn't occurred again but I want to determine why it happened at all.

    Any ideas?

Try resetting the BIOS. Just look around for a BIOS jumper on the motherboard & remove it for 10-20 seconds. Insert it again & switch on the computer. While you have opened the case, it would be a good idea to replace the battery too - just in case.
