Im trying to connect my laptom to my desktop pc, both using Windows XP (the desktop has the professional and the laptop the Home edition) with a Parallel cable. I created an incoming connection on my desktop PC and a direct connection with LPT1 on my laptop. The problem is that i dont know what to put in the username and password field when I click the connect from my laptop PC. I tried using the username and password i log in to my desktop pc, but it didnt work.. Any ideas how to solve this? I need to transfer data from my desktop pc to my laptop urgently! (And no, I do not want to spend money on a network card or an external cdr for my desktop pc)
    Thanks a lot!

Did you go through the "Set up a Home or Small Office Network" wizard on either, or both, machines?

If you don't care about seeing the laptop from the desktop, you can get by with running the wizard only on the laptop.

If so, did you mark the drive you want to get the data from as "Shared "? (Right click on the folder or files or drive you want to share and it'll just tell you to drag that folder, file or drive into the "Shared Documents" folder. If you want to share an entire drive, you'll get a warning message about the dangers, of course.)

Once you do those things, you should be able to get the data transferred if you're using the right kind of cable (which I assume you are).
