    WinXp Home, SP2.

    Gateway system (and keyboard).

I have special purpose keys (cut, copy, paste, home, volume up/down,
    etc) on my keyboard.

The keys that control the wmp work fine but only for wmp. I would like to
use these controls (previous, next, stop, play/pause, mute, volume up,
volume down) to control winamp not wmp.

A search in this forum found hits about keyboard (s) but nothing close
enough to do what i want to do.

Checking the device drivers>keyboard>HID Keyboard device properties
shows kbdclass.sys and kbdhid.sys but i cant find any way to
    re-program the special purpose keys.

    Anyone??

    thanks,
    savagcl

    Hello Clif,
I see you are trying to modify that Gateway machine again :D

You may have to work with the User Guide information for the keyboard. If the keys control the wmp settings, I would try to get them to control the master volume controls. The "master" volume controls should be seen as a speaker icon in the system tray.

Why the keys do not already control the master volume, I could not say
...ah, you are running a retail version of Windows rather than the Gateway OEM version ?? Once you have lost access to the OEM setup you might be...

You know my recommendations Clif, although I know you will keep trying
    :)

    Matt

Hi Mattman, long time no hear.

    Still running the OEM version!

Strangely, the volume and mute keys work, speaker vs player i guess.
Its the Play/Pause, Stop, Previous, Next keys that are tied to wmp.

I'll try to find the users guide at gateway.

    Take care, Guy.

Gateway had no users guide nor updates.

The keyboard makers site (http://www.chicony.com.tw/index2.htm) didnt
have anything either. So, i guess this keyboard isnt programmable at all.

    Thanks for the interest,
    savagcl

Try using KeyTweak - Keyboard Remapper v2.2.0. It allows user to "reassign" the value of a key on the keyboard. Used it a year ago to reassign my "Favorites" button on keyboard (now it shows Drive C for attached network computer). It comes as 154 KB .exe install. Inside the folder it creates you will find KeyTreaks User Guide (pdf file). Or download pdf here . Does say Fn keys can not be re-mapped.
