    Using TB 1.5.0.4, WinXP SP1

Have been trying to set up archives on a CD-RW for weeks now and I'm getting nowhere. The more I read Ramona's instructions, the more I get in trouble.

Have backed up my mozilla profile in a separate partition-- just in case.

My problem(s)are/is (I think): I can't seem to find the tabs called for in the instructions. For example, To set up a "dummy" account:

    'Edit|Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings':
I can't find anythinglike this under 'Edit' (??). What I see is Edit|Undo, Redo, Cut, Copy, Paste, etc . . .

Obviously I'm looking in the wrong place. If I look under 'Tools', I see:Address Book, Themes, . . . Account Settings, etc. . . But, 'Account Settings' do not offer me a 'Wizard' (???) I must be missing the obvious -- but not so obvious to me. DUM, DUMM & DUMMER!:(

Where do I find "Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings "? I have, earlier, managed to move my old mail to separate folders, using the 'archives@someplace.invalid', 'archives' ID, etc. I can view them quite easily. I suspect this was not supposed to be this way.

Hopefully, you can lead me by the nose and bring me out of this mental quaqmire. Bear in mind, I'm not the very swift in matters of this sort.

    TIA,
    Bob :(

    Hi Bob,

The setting is found in Account Settings. Once you click on "Add Account ", the Account Wizard appears.

Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings in Mozilla and Netscape is the same as Thunderbird's Tools | Account Settings. If that is helpful, then I would be glad to add that information to that Solutions page.

When you create the "Dummy" account, follow the screen shots, as the information will be the same. Remember to uncheck the option to "Use Global Inbox ".

Let me know if you have any further questions, and I'll update the Solutions page for Thunderbird. That should also be helpful.

    Thanks Ramona.

I'll see what I can do. For some reason my "Archive@someplace.invalid" account isn't viewable any more. I did something wrong!? Yet, I can see the account viewing with Win Explorer. Will check it out. Busy day so don't know how soon will get to it.

    Bob,

If the account isn't showing up in TB, then recreate the account. :)

    Ramona,

I'm lost. Tried to recreate the Archive account but while it appears to have been created, it does not display in the normal TB Window (Acct name, Inbox, Drafts, Templates, etc). Only the default account (complete and working) and "Local Folders" appear herre.

Trying to create a new acct in Local Folders results in the same thing. The Accts settings all appear normal, but nothing appears on the normal TB Window display.

Looked into the profile. In the Mail folder there is the default acct and Local Folder but no others.

Looking into the Local Folder the Archive SBD, Archive and Archive.MSF folders appear. The Archive. SBD indicates it contains data, Archive shows Empty and .MSF folders show data.

Do I need to delete the .MSF's? Incidentally, have three cache folders: Cache, Cache2 and Cache4. Are these suspect as well?

    Thanks,
    Bob

    Bob,

If the account is showing up in Local Folders, then you most likely neglected to disable the "Global Setting ". See this Screen Shot

You won't see any folders, unless you have the CD loaded before you open Thunderbird.

I would delete the Cache and MSF files, using Windows Explorer.
