Trojan Horse Dialer BE, Trojan Horse Downloaded Agent.13.AI, Java Byte Verify

I picked up several viruses about 2 days ago. Trojan Horse Dialer BE, Trojan Horse Downloaded Agent.13.AI, Java Byte Verify are the names that I see "“ but all are supposedly deleted during the virus scan.. Right now i can't seem to open a thing past the desktop icons. I'm running a AVG Free Edition virus scan on it now in safe mode. It is running slowly and may take 3-4 hours. I'm on an old back-up laptop now.

This current problem started after I visited a new forum and and tried to view a photo that had rippling water effects added, I was alerted to an attempt to open a java script command. The page didn’t open fully and locked, so I thought the attempted command had failed.

But then things started going wrong. Slow surfing, viruses found in my daily AV scan, and viruses reappearing after deleting them in the scan.

My home page had been hijacked to a Google page using some "local" address in a Windows address (can’t remember and changed it back).

A "Trustin" tool bar has been added to my tool bars at the top of the page that include Dating, Adult +18, Games and Pharmacy. This is still there, even though I deleted it once through the "Add/Delete Programs" in Control Panel.

And an "Adult Friend Finder" strip ad has been added to the bottom of my pages. There are about 6 icons added to the desktop for ads.

There are "key" words that are highlighted on web pages that are links to ads. I think this comes with using Kaaza, which I occasionally use to locate some music.

I use Comcast as my main ISP, w/ a Netzero subscription and free Juno as a back-up.

I use Yahoo Messenger, and several Yahoo emails, several Juno emails, several Netzero emails and several hotmail emails. I use Flashget extensively for downloading.

I have Win XP Pro and use AVG Free Addition in lieu of the supplied NAV. I update automatically and scan daily. I run Ad-Aware SE Personal frequently. The supplied firewall was apparently working and before visiting this new forum, I tested the firewall on 2 or 3 different sites using several tests that randomly test multiple ports and all seemed secure.

I have a 100GB HP Pavilion zv6000 laptop, but it is in need of maintenance. I have less than 1GB of free space and haven’t run a recommended HD defrag yet.

I sense a need to seek help on this before things escalate further.

Well after your scan with AVG, I assume you have also run Adaware and let it fix what it found.

Lets get a HijackThis! scan to look further.

HiJackThis v:1.99.1zip.
DL the zip file to your desktop, then create a new folder on your C drive, called 'HJT' or 'HijackThis'. Then unzip the files to the new folder. When you run HijackThis.exe from C:\HJT folder and have it "Fixed checked" it will create a backup file of modifications to use if restore is necessary which is easily accessible.

Run the program, and press Scan. You will notice the Scan button will turn into a "Save Log" button. Save the log and Post that log onto this topic. DO NOT DELETE or modify anything yet, as some of it is needed to keep your system in proper working order.

 

OK - The scan found the Trojan Horse Dialer BE virus and stopped. I deleted that and it continued for 3 hours which was about half way through. I stopped it and did get things running now. Here's the HJT log:

Looks a total mess. Read 1st post for some clairification.

 

OK, there doesn't seem to be to much there that shouldn't remove easily, tho I am a little bit concerned with one file, which I'd like you to have scanned for me.

Below you will find my results and recommendations. Please read ALL instructions carefully BEFORE proceeding.

You have both AVG and Nortin AV running on this system, which can cause major conflicts. You need to pick one over the other and remove one.

Please go to http://virusscan.jotti.org , click on Browse, and upload the following file for analysis:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\logivx.dll <<<--this file

Then click Submit. Allow the file to be scanned, and then please copy and paste the results here for me to see.

Be patient as this site is usually very busy.

Also please submit the file to Norman Sandbox File Submission. A valid email is required but there is no worry as the site is fully trustful. They will send you back a details analysis of the file and please post contents of the analysis back here.

O20 - Winlogon Notify: logivx - logivx.dll (file missing)

Reboot, into safe mode, this way:
Turn on the computer
Immediately begin tapping the <F8> key.
Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the <Enter> key.

Also, enable the 'Show Hidden Folders' option, like this:
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

And search for, then delete, if found, (some may not be present after previous steps) the following files/folders:
C:\Program Files\Need2Find<<<<---folder
C:\Program Files\TrustIn Contextual<<<<---folder
C:\Program Files\TBONBin<<<<---folder
C:\WINDOWS\inetloader.dll<<<--file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\logivx.dll <<<--file

To exit Safe Mode, click the Start button, click Turn Off Computer, click Restart.

Sorry so late. Deleted unused NAV which took forever - then realized it was hanging up.

The logivx.dll file was not found.

Uninstalled in Add/Remove all except Best Offers which is bundeled w/ Kazaa and is claimed not to be spyware or malware. I use Kazaa a lot and would just have to install it over and over again.
Deleted the additional Trustin entries, Trustin Bar and Trustin Pop-ups.

Deleted 16 of the 20 entries that still showed up in the new HJT log.

Deleted the entries in safe mode except for logivx.dll, which was not found.
Additionally I deleted the Trustin Bar and Pop-up folders.

Ran a new HJT log - as follows:

OK, well the last log file was clean. However, if you continue to use Kazaa, it won't be for long, I'm certain.

Each and every file you DL has the potential to have aboard it an infection. No, Kazaa in and of itself is supposed to be malware free, but that does not mean the files which are distributed from others are as clean.

A major risk IMHO.

And Best Offers is a notorious adware bundling company, also referred to as Direct Revenue.

If after reading all that, you still want to keep Best Offers on your system....well, to be honest I can't imagine anyone wanting to keep it after all that they have done. Odds are, 99% of what you had was installed via Best Offers, their EULA says they can DL anything they want to your machine whenever they want and you have no say in the matter.

But that's up to you, it's your machine and your risk, as I can do is advise.

We have 3 more things to do, to help ensure you have removed all the little 'leftovers' which may be hiding:

Empty the TIF (Temporary Internet Files)
Delete all the files in (and any subfolders of) the C:\Windows\Temp folder
The app below will help with temp files.

Also, delete all your cookies, and empty your recycle bin. But remember, by deleting your cookies, you will have to re-enter any passwords and log-in info for any sites you are usually required to do so with.

This would also be a good time to set a new system restore point for your machine.
Set New System Restore Point. Do not do this unless there are no other user accounts to be diagnosed.

Also, as you are an XP user, if there are any other accounts on this machine, they too, must be cleaned with AdAware, Spybot S&D, then HJT. Not all infections are global, nor are all the HJT fixes global. You can post each user account here into this thread, but please, do only one at a time to avoid confusion.

To further prevent the installation of ad/mal/spyware, DL the apps below, which are just as good the fight against ad/mal/spyware as AdAware & Spybot S&D:

SpywareBlaster
With SpywareBlaster v3.5.1 , just DL, install and check for updates, enable Internet Explorer protection, and your done! I don't recommend using IE restricted sites protection as it's not a very large database. Use IE-SPYADs below.

To avoid known malware infested sites from loading in IE install IESPY ADS.
And MVPS Hosts File will accomplish a similar tactic and provide another layer of protection.

And to prevent unknown applications from being inserted to start up on your machine install WinPatrol v10.0.1.
