I have my two computers networked, one called MAIN and one called KIDS. I want to be able to see everything on the KIDS computer from the MAIN computer. The first problem I have is that when I log on as the admin account on the KIDS computer and change the settings to make the folders and subfolders sharable, they revert back to read only or I can't view them at all.

At first this started with not being able to access the Program Files and Windows folders from the main computer. Now I don't think I can see any files from the MAIN computer. My feeling is that I am not being recognized as an administrator on the KIDS computer when I access it from the MAIN computer.

One person told me to boot in safe mode and make the folders available, but that didn't work.

Any clues as to what is going on? I am using XP Home Ed.

    thanks,

    LOL

    To see everything.
After logging on as admin on KIDS – share the entire drive C:
You’ll get a warning message – NOT recommended, if understand risks click here.
Male sure also check mark – allow network users to change my files.
(That’ll get rid of the read only thing).

Hope it’s a throw away computer if kids also have access to internet and go this route.
Definitely do NOT have any directories on MAIN shared.
Assume you’re gonna have kids on KIDS log on as something other then Admin – otherwise they can just un-checkmark things again.

Their computer is gonna end up with viruses, spyware and all kindsa stuff you don’t want on MAIN. A better way is to purchase pcAnywhere from Norton. It’ll give you complete access to KIDS (just as if at KIDS keyboard) without having to share things and completely opening up KIDS to internet. It'll also keep KIDS isolated from MAIN.

    luck

I should still be able to block sites....

...via firewall, content advisor, internet security programs, etc. shouldn't I? I should also still be able to limit spyware and such with the same software shouldn't I? I just want to be able to access everything on their computer from mine.

Pcanywhere or VNC viewer should do the trick . since u can log onto their machine and have access to all applications and services. then u can run virus scans , scan for spyware and adaware etc

    Brett ...

If you don't require file sharing between the computers, the free version of LogMeIn should serve your purposes. It, too, will give you access to KIDS, as though you were sitting at that computer's keyboard.

However, it's probably best not to use it while they're using their computer as, at the very least, they'll know you're monitoring them. :)
