I am running windows XP and on a consistant interval
the screen auto-refreshes. It blinks during it as well.

For example if i am typing while it does it whatever
character I was typing is skipped.

This is also happening on a Windows 2000 computer
on the network. The blink/autorefresh happens in
    every application.

We have MS updates set to auto
install. This problem just started a couple days ago.

I am wondering if it is a bad patch? Anyone else
    have any suggestions?

Hi and welcome to the BBS,

It blinks during applications, any blinks if it is just sitting at the desktop?

Do the blinks coinside with the blinks on the Win 2000 computer?

How is the network set up, wireless? Is there a router or dedicated server?

I tend to think it is the network connection dropping out. If you are using Windows XP firewall you could try disabling it when you are not connected to the internet.

Check if there are any records being made in Event Manager.

If typed letters are being missed the whole system is stopping, not just the screen or graphics. Refresh? Maybe more of a stop and restart.

    Matt

the computer both have different monitors and no driver updates have
been performed recently. We do have an auto update machine that
pushes out windows office and OS updates silently.

I restarted both machines and they are no longer doing this. My theory
is that an update was installed on the machines silently that needed a reboot
but it did not reboot and maybe this was causing the blink ???

I will monitor the issue, but since the reboot 5 hours ago it is no longer doing
    it on either machine.
