Hello I am new to all this but I just recently downloaded windows SP2 and a free CCcleaner, I noticed my memory went from 137GB to 126GB so when I click on my computer then drive C, then the windows folder I see a bunch of files named $NTUninstall... taking up alot of the memory, is it safe to get rid of some of these? and if so how can I tell which ones? thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi...

A drop in hard drive space would seem very normal if you just downloaded and installed SP2 on your machine.
The $NTUninstall folders that you see are in fact a backup of your system before SP2 was installed, basically is there to provide you with a way to "rollback" your system to a time before SP2 was installed incase you experience any dramas.

I would not delete them. 126Gb of hard disk space is heaps and removing them will not gain you much more valuable space.

Convention has it that Memory is the amount of RAM (Random Access Memory) installed on the computer, generally in the range 256/512 Mb to 1 - 2 Gb. What you are referring to is Hard Disk space or storage capacity.

Confusing at first, but best to get it right now rather than later :)

    Hello Amber,

Installing SP2 on your system added a $NTUninstall file for SP2 - I would leave that in case you want to uninstall SP2.

The other $NTUninstall files are now superfluous with the install of SP2 - they were the uninstall files for pre SP2 critical updates and if you wish can be removed. What I had done was save these pre SP2 $NTUninstall files to a CD for a while, just in case.

Eventually you can treat the $NTUninstall file for SP2 the same way.

    Regards - Charles
