I have a home network that consists of a WinME computer and XP computer
both connected to a router which also connects to the DSL modem.

I have an hp Deskjet that when connected to the me computer (shared)
i can print on either computer.

I tried setting up on the XP computer and it prints fine from xp but when i
tried setting it up on me, i could not print -- it apparently could not find the
    printer.

It's probably something simple that i've overlooked but just can't get it to work
when set up this way. Any suggestions ?

I had the same problem when I had an HP5550 Printer set up on this XP Pro machine and shared by two 98 machines. It was VERY,VERY tempermental. Some times it would print from the 98SE mchines and some times it would not.

Also I would forget and shut this machine down. OOPPS !!!

I got VERY discussted and bought an HP5850 which plugs right into the Router. Of course I did have to install it on each machine. But it has proven to be well worth the added cost of materials.

There is no real hurry but my next project it to see if I can do the same with a Scanner.

    Something that I forgot.

While I was setting up the 5850 I was having problems with the 98SE machines finding it.

So I shut the other two off and worked with only one at a time while I was installing it and all went much better.

Also if I remember correctly I had to do the same thing when setting up the Internet on each machine after installing the Router.

Sometime later I found that the old 5550 was still being SHARED and was causing problems. I killed the sharing on it and no problems since.

I deleted it (on ME and started over) and reinstalled it and it's now working. So who knows. Thanks for the response.
