I think this is a XP problem (or headspace on my part) so i posted it in
this forum. Feel free to relocate if necessary.

Problem with a DVD drive (PLEXTOR DVDR PX-740A) not reading a
    mini-disk (as a disk).

    1. Using a full sized DVD, everything is OK (the label changed to MP3 CD (H).
    2. Using a mini-DVD-RW, 1.4 Gig this is what happens-

Nero can write to it ok but when i try to look at the contents on the DVD
via My Computer, the DVD icon is labeled as: MMC/SD (H) and i get a
blank window showing (no files or folders) (This is the same mini-disk
that Nero just wrote to). Looking at the DVD i can see where it has
    been written on.

In My Computer, the label for the DVD is shown as: MMC/SD (H) with
no DVD mounted (not showing as a DVD device).

    Things i checked:
Control panel >System >Hardware >Device Manager shows OK for the
    DVD (and everything else).

Disk management: shows the DVD as CD-ROM 0, DVD, online. When i
click on the properties it shows the device is working properly.

In My Computer window, right-clicking on the MMC/SD (H) icon and
creating a shortcut, the shortcut will show as "Shortcut to CD Drive ".

Disk layout, in My Computer, for my PC shows as:
    C
    D
    E
    F
    G
    Floppy
MMC/SD (H) <This is the drive letter/label assigned to the DVD with a
    mini-DVD mounted.
    Smartmedia (K)
    MS/MS Pro (L)
    MMC/SD (M)
    CompactFlashI/II (N)

Dont understand why the DVD is showing as a MMC/SD device and
giving me a empty window for a mini-disk when a full-sized DVD will
work fine. I have written to mini-DVD before and all went well.

Questioning why with a mini-disk (with data files on it) the label shows
as MMC/SD (H) with a blank window and looking for a fix.

    thanks,
    savagcl

PS: I left off the colons after the drive letters because they were being
picked up as images (as smilies :) and said i had more that the limit.

    More:

I put a shortcut of MMC/SD (H:) on the desktop.
When i click on the shortcut properties >change icon (pick any one) and
then click apply I get the message:
The name 'H:\' specified in the target box is not valid. Make sure the
path and file name are correct.

    need some suggestions please,

This is the icon that shows when no cd/dvd is in the drive.
