You are connected to the access point, but the Internet cannot be found.

    Windows 98SE
    WPC54G
    Texas Instruments PCI-1410 CardBus Controller

IP shows 169.254.251.37 which I know is wrong but I don't know how to get it to see the real one.

Check you network cable connections. If your router has a built in switch giving you a number of network ports (commonly four), try connecting the cable from your PC to a different port.

Then Reboot your router. Once it is back up and running (all LEDs on front of router apear correctly lit), reboot your computer.

If that doesn't fix the problem, try setting the IP address manually. Try these settings:

    IP 192.168.1.5
    Mask 255.255.255.0
    Gateway 192.168.1.1
    DNS 192.168.1.1

If they don't work try these:

    IP 192.168.0.5
    Mask 255.255.255.0
    Gateway 192.168.0.1
    DNS 192.168.0.1

If still nowhere, set the IP addressing back to automatic and post back with more detail about your set up. In particular, type and model of router.

Other that checking the cable and trying a different port, the procedures I described are still worth trying.

Are you using Windows in built wireless application to set up the wireless network or the software that came with the card? Can you see the router via the connection software?

I am setting up the static Ips and will try that

The software is downloaded from linksys for the card - cannot get it to see the router right now...

Then that is the root of your problem. Until you can see the router in the wireless software, you will not be able to get it to connect.

Have you tried using the software to search for the wireless network that has the SSID specified in your router configuration.

Also, the Linksys software probably will not work with the Texas Instruments network card. You need to look for the driver/application bundled with the card to access the card set up and make sure it matches the configuration set up in your router.
