    Hiya Folks!

Last week I started to encounter a problem with Outlook 2003 (run on Windows XP). Both Outlook 2003 and Windows XP Pro have installed all the necessary service packs and updates.

Basically, when I run Outlook and instruct it to send/receive new mail, this is the message I get:

Task 'Google Mail - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108): 'Outlook is unable to connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP).'

Now...the thing is this....I tried this on two different connections:

    1. At work using a LAN cable connection.
    2. At home using a 3G card installed on my laptop.

In both cases, I can connect to the net, and I can use internet explorer to browse web pages, buuuuuuut...the only thing not working is Outlook 2003.

Any clues? I would appreciate your help! Thank you! :)

    Follow up....

Sorry .... forgot to mention some things:

    1. I did not install any programs at the time that this happened.
    2. When I connect at home using the 3G card, my computer hangs for several minutes before I regain control of the computer....and sometimes, after 5 minutes of browsing, I cannot access any webpages (but this only happens at home with my 3G card!). I never loose connection at work.
    3. I already tried to uninstall and reinstall Outlook and the 3G card software....but nothing is different.
    4. Last but not least...and this could be the source of the problem.... I reset my IP address using "XP TCPIP Repair" tool that I downloaded from the internet just before this problem began.

    Thank you!

Already tried that! Thank you :)

Thank you for the suggestion! I should have mentioned before that I had already tried that link before posting this issue on this site, but it didnt resolve the problem.

As a matter of fact I have McAfee Security Suite installed (latest version with all updates) not Norton. I tried to uninstall and reinstall it, but still same issue persists.

Thank you! Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Disabling all addins in Outlook doesnt work.

An update...I tried to disable all Addins in Outlook (McAfee and other) and still experience same problem.

Did you try running Detect and Repair from the Outlook Help menu?

I assume that you have no problems accessing the Internet with other programs?

Yup! Tried it, but didnt work!

Yup! I tried Detect and Repair before posting this issue on this site, but it didnt work.

With Internet Explorer I am browsing websites normally using my company LAN connection. With my home 3G card, I do not lose connection, but after a few minutes of browsing, Internet explorer cannot retrieve the webpages. Also, when I connect with my 3G card, my computer hangs for several minutes before I regain control.

In either case (whichever connection I use) Outlook gives me that message.

    Thank you!

    Also tried this.

I deleted the email configuration in Outlook and I re-entered them using the procedures that are listed by Google. I verified all the details and it didnt resolve the situation.

I am using "googlemail ". Tried "gmail ", as you suggested, but didnt work.

Do you think it could be something with my IP settings? Since I resetter my IP, that could possibly the problem, no?

    Thanks for your help!

No, not really, since that would affect Web browsing too.

I'd suggest trying with another mail client first.

Ok thanks...I will let you know once I try it.

Is Outlook Express considered another email client? Do you have any in mind that I should try?

    Thank you.

Suddenly works from home! Not from work!

Hi again! I tried another client (Outlook Express) and it only worked from home. I can receive and send emails using outlook express from home, not from work.

I tried MS Outlook, and strangely it is working now but only from home. I still get that same message when I try to access my emails from work.
