When I backup my files on XP Home it puts a Thumb.db file in each folder (I assume they are for the thumbnails view). These files are large (250k) and horde 3.5 disks space. How do I tell XP not to do this?
The only way I was able to see the Thumb.db files was by viewing the disk in Win98.

    tb extention

Yep thumbs extention it is. Within windows explorer & select the folder that contains the files you are backing up. Now click view on toolbar & change the "thumbnails" to "details" :)

The Thumbs.db is a hidden file and by default Windows XP does not show hidden files. In My Computer or Windows Explorer click Tools | Folder Options and change the setting to show hidden files or folders. Now Thumbs.db should show up in Windows XP.

    Its a no go

I have tried using all the different views for the folder, but it still implants the thumbs.db file into every floppy I write on. I even went as far as moving the files into a new folder that I pre-set to details, but it didn’t work.

I already had my system setup to view hidden files but they still weren’t visible. The show hidden files setting shows everything but the thumbs.db file.

My guess is that I can stop it if I can figure out how to have all the files view set to details. That way, when I view a new disk it won’t automatically be set to thumbnails. I'll have to try it again later because my machine is having display issues.
