A few months ago spyware was loaded onto my home computer: a keylogger, something called spectorsoft or spectorpro, purity somethingorother, etc. Several. I subscribed to Spyware Doctor which found them, and I quarantined them. Since then, my computer is running very slowly again, and I think the spyware is back. So, I subscribed to Spy Sweeper, ran it, and it didn't find any of the previous stuff. Now when I run either of the spyware detectors, they usually find nothing. So I went into the quarantine log and found that a few weeks ago "components of spectorsoft" and "spectorpro keylogger" showed up in a routine scan. My question is: How can I be positive I've gotten rid of these things? And: Can they defeat the two anti-spyware programs I have running?

Hello Natasha and welcome to WindowsBBS forums.

If the items were found and quarantined, then you have no worries, the anti-spyware tools did their job.

It's highly unlikely they circumvented the protection you have.

If you like you can post a HijackThis! log file for us to review.

    Use HiJackThis v:1.99.1zip.
DL the zip file to your desktop, then create a new folder on your C drive, called 'HJT' or 'HijackThis'. Then unzip the files to the new folder. When you run HijackThis.exe from C:\HJT folder and have it "Fixed checked" it will create a backup file of modifications to use if restore is necessary which is easily accessible.
Run the program, and press Scan. You will notice the Scan button will turn into a "Save Log" button. Save the log and Post that log onto this topic. DO NOT DELETE or modify anything yet, as some of it is needed to keep your system in proper working order.

Thanks TeMerc. I'm still paranoid. My computer was running very slowly when the keylogger was active, especially my e-mails. Now that's happening again but intermitantly. When you quarantine something with anti-spyware, how do you delete it from your computer? It seems to still be in quarantine and able to be restored. In the meantime, other stuff has been quarantined, too, like VX2LOOK2ME. I watch the scans and try to read them. The keylogger is listed along with the spectorpro and other stuff I don't recognize like "Alexa ". Is the anti-spyware just scanning them and overlooking them because they're quarantined?

Most all anti-spyware apps have an option to delete the quarantine folder. Just be sure nothing there is anything you want to keep. And in most cases this is not a problem.

Look2Me is a fairly difficult infection to remove entirely and not many, if any at all anti-spyware apps can do it.

I strongly suggest you post a HJT log file for us to look at. Sure can't hurt and peace of mind is priceless. ;)
