I have downloaded the edirol drivers, I plugged the sound card into the pc (USB) and windows autmatically installed the USB Audio device automatically...This is the wrong driver so I tried to uninstall it and re-install but could not see the driver I downloaded.

In the instructions it tells me to install the drivers manually? but I cant stop windows installing the wrong driver....where do i tell xp to stop loading the driver!!!!!!

    please help!!

Hi and welcome to the BBS,
I take it that you have unzipped/decompressed the driver files (I have a folder C:\Drivers where I have subfolders for all the different drivers). Use My Computer to look at those files. You may need to find a folder for your model. There should be a file listed as "setup information" right-click on the file and select install. You won't see anything change. This should only help Windows locate the correct drivers, don't worry if you cannot find it.

Go to Device Manager and at the bottom of the list will be USB controllers. Click the plus (+) to see the listing. Connect the USB device and you will see it appear in the list. Right-click on listing and select Properties or double-click on it. Go to the drivers tab and select "Update Driver ". In the wizard, change (the radio button) from "Install the drivers automatically" to "Install from a list or specific location ". You can then direct Windows (browse) to the folder where you have decompressed the driver files. If you were able to find the "setup information" file, you may/should be able to select "Don't search I will choose the driver to install ". When you use that, your model should be listed, you will need to click the "Have Disk..." button and then direct/browse to the driver file folder. It will be looking for the .inf file (setup information file) for your model.

    I have tried

I have tried this a few times and each time it says It cannnot fint the driver. In the edirol folder i downloaded the instructions tell me plug the card in the usb port...but to manually install the driver first! But windows automatically installs the usb driver. Is there a way to stop windows to stop loading automatically.

Thanks for your help so far!

I looked at the driver download. It is a little complicated.

The "manual" driver installation is described in the file Readme_E.html, under the heading Installation. Basically, you start without the (any USB) devices connected. You turn off Driver Signing. You run the file Setupinf.exe. It then tells you to connect the device and goes on to describe the different ways Windows may react.

You will need to follow those steps closely.

If you find trouble, run the file uninstall.exe and start again. There is also a download listed for the UA-25 to uninstall the drivers (at the bottom of the driver list).

    it is a constent pain

I'll try again when I get home..though I did launch the exe file and then plug in the turn on the card. In the readme it says that windows should start to recognise the usb device BUT wait and let me install the driver manually. Windows just goes ahead and install the USB audio device driver...

I really appreciate your help..I'll let you know how I get on..I just want windows to stop being too smart and loading the wrong driver.
