When I close Outlook 2003 with all patches and updates (SP2) applied I get this message:
DDE Server Window: OUTLOOK.EXE - Application Error
The instruction at "0x35cd179f" referenced memory at "0x35cd179f ". The memory could not be "read ".
Click on OK to terminate the program.

This problem started in the last week or so. Im running Win XP SP2 fully updated. Doesn't seem to stop Outlook from working properly. It's just another annoying box to click on when quitting. Any ideas?

Might try clicking on Help and do "Detect and Repair." Note that you might be prompted to insert your office/outlook cd.

Thanks Steve but I've already tried that and I still get the error message.

Have identical problem, commenced 1 week ago: on closing MS Outlook (only, but not always) error flag pops up. Error msg reads:

WMS idle: OUTLOOK.EXE - Application Error

The instruction at "0x35cd179f" referenced memory at "0x35cd179f ". The memory could not be "read ".

Click on OK to terminate the program.

    Suspects?:
    1. Extensive use of Outlook calendar comment field for agendae etc including hyperlinks and dragged-in emails etc.
    2. Norton AV and/or SpywareDoctor upgrades.
    3. Closely coincident install iPod & iTunes & QuickTime Pro.
    4. Often have very large & complex spreadsheets & Java stocktickers running.
    5. A midnight auto-reboot last week probably coincided with an auto-update Windows XP SP2.

No evidence of data destruction on exit. No bad-close message on restart of MSO.

I think it might be QuickTime Pro that's the culprit. I have uninstalled it and Outlook 2003 is now behaving itself. I'll leave it off my sysem for a while and then reinstall it and see what happens.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I am experiencing the same problem. My money is on Spyware Doctor as the error only began after installing it a few days ago. It is also intermittent, but I haven't recognised a pattern as to why it only happens sometimes (approx 30% of the time) for me.

Could have something to do with it speedycat. I have Spyware Dr too. When I uninstalled QuickTime Pro everything seemed OK so I installed it again and the error came back. May be a combination of the two. Do you have QuickTime Pro installed by any chance?

Not Pro, just the Quicktime Player 6.5 that came preinstalled on my Dell e1705

    Observations

Simply exiting QuickTimePro (on task bar) fails to prevent the intermittent error. Are you folks using iTunes/iPod as well? (installation also coincident with error).

Could indeed be Spyware Dr - MSO/SpDr coexisted for months, but constant updates perhaps inflicted an incompatibility.

Coincident oddity: my Start Menu frequently shows multiple instances of MSOutlook and MSInternetExplorer - two icons for each appear. Doesn't seem to cause disasters, and is curable by clicking properties/OK & waiting a second or two for the display to reset.

I note occasional bad shutdowns with Google Desktop - another suspect - are you folks using it?

Not using Google desktop search ximik.
I do have ITunes installed as well but as I said uninstalling QuickTime Pro (which left ITunes installed) fixed the problem for me but I want it installed because I use it so I have to put up with the error message for now.

I removed the Google add-ons that came pre-installed with my Dell. These were removed as soon as I got it (a few weeks ago). I only started getting the error a few days ago and the only changes I made at that time were:

    (1) Installed Spyware Dr
    (2) Manually deleted GTB.exe and GTB2.exe, since after installing Spyware Dr these were appearing as messages on shutdown about not having had time to start! A search on the Dell forum suggested that these were leftovers from Google that needed manual deletion.

Those were the only 2 changes that I can recall -- and my error remains intermittent only.

    Same problem

I have been experiencing the same issue, initially I thought it was just Oulook but have recently seen it on a couple of other apps.

I too use Spyware Doctor and Ad-Aware

Just downloaded the latest updates from MS and from Spyware Doctor and the issue appears to be resolved - anyone else found the same?

I think you could be right etlcnes. I just got the latest updates too and Outlook is behaving nicely now. I would lay bets on it being the updates from Microsoft though.
At least the problem looks like it's solved now.

Totally agree as to where the blame lies though I must admit have had some issues with the Spyware Doctor guys in the past - thankfully however the problem appears to have gone away and that's the main thing
