Hi Everyone, thankyou in advance for your help I really need it! (I know all of us fell the same):(

Anyway, my problem started since I was going to connect another router in my original router (this is from the network company and has only one ethernet connection and one USB), the main computer is using the USB connection, but we have another 2 laptops, That's why I got another ethernet router. So, when I was trying to set it up, all whent wrong!, because I didn't know how to do it and it was asking me to put infomation, like IP addreses, kind of connections, etc. so I was just guessing, thinking this wouldn't change anythig, (because it wasn't doing anything), and suddenly my internet connection whent "off ", sending me this message "limited connection or not connectivity ", and since then I have been withs problem!

I already try the Microsoft patch, etc. but nothing work, what I saw, it was that my connection IP address is 192.168.1.1 , but when the limited connection comes, my IP address change to the other router IPaddress 168.254.37.67 and now I can't acces to that page and I have not that router at home any more, I gave it back.

So please if anyone know what is the problem or how to at leats try to fix it, I'll be very greatfull. It's really frustating, you don't know when are you gonna loose your connectivity and for how long!

    Thanks again.:)

    Welcome to WindowsBBS.

Most broadband routers run a service called DHCP. This service sets the IP addresses of the computers on the network (if they are set to automatic IP addressing - which they usually are). It sounds like both your routers are giving out IP addresses via DHCP and that your computers are switching between the two sets of addresses. As one set is correct and working, and the other is misconfigured and doesn't work, the computers' internet connection succeeds and fails depending on which set of addresses is being used.

The quick fix is to switch the new problem router off and then run the following command on your computers:
    Code:
    ipconfig /all
You only need one router on the network. All the PCs should be able to work with just one. Can you explain again why you need another one so that we can either help you configure it to work with the existing router, or deal with the problem by reconfiguring one of your routers to carry out both tasks.

Hi, Thankyou so much for your promt answer.

well I think what you are saying it is what is happening, and really hope it;#'s easy to fix it.

I did need an extra router, because my actual router provided by the BB company, has only one USB and one ethernet connection, and we were trying to shere the BB among three computers, but since I had problems with it, I gave back the router to the shop and the other person who was going to shere the connection is leaving so, what I really need now, is just to put everything back as it was before, with only one router from the BB company.

    Thanks again for your help.

Hi again, I'm not sure is didn't inderstand what you said first, did you ask me to swich the router off?, well I don't even have it any more as I said, I gave it back to the shop, what I need it's like swich off its information I think because the problem is that My connection still have its information around!. I did the ipconfig /all ,and this is what I've got:

    Node type UNKNOWN
    IP routing enabled NO
    wins proxy enabled NO
    DNS suffix search list HOME

    -----
    connection specific DNS suffix HOME
Description (the name of my ethernet card)
    physical address 00-10-60-60-51-03
    dhcp enabled YES
    autoconfiguration enabled YES
    IP address 192.168.1.2
    subnet mask 255.255.255.0
    default getaway 192.168.1.1
    DHCP server 192.168.1.1
    DNS server 192.168.1.1
    ----------------------------------
This is how it ahould be all the time, this is the information from my router, the problem is when i loose the connection and becaomes limited, then I go to see the IP address and apears the other router's number (I remember it) and that's it, I can't renew it or anything doesn't do more!
or I just don't know what else can I do.

    THANKS

That IPCONFIG output looks fine. You router is at 192.168.1.1.

Looking at your original post, 168.254.37.67 looks like one of the automated IP addresses XP creates when it cannot find a DHCP server. For you to pick up an address from the router, you need to turn it on first, before you turn the computer on. If the router is off when you start up your PC it will assign itself an address rather than pick up the correct address from the router.

The other option may be that you have a dodgy cable. It might be worth changing the network cable between your PC and the router.
