My problem started when NIS 2006 became corrupted (no surprise) and I had to uninstall it as per Symantec instructions and then use the NRT to clean up remaining items.
Problem is that when I uninstalled it, it also took MS Office and a lot of system files with it. After working for HOURS trying to resolve the issue I finally did a "System Recovery" FOUR times!!!!
Each time something didn't install right and I had to keep repeating the recovery from scratch. Can't do a SFC with VAIO software so this was not an option.
After the 4th install (the 1st 3 gave error messages at some point) everything seemed to install fine, except when I restarted the computer before the desktop appears I heard the error message pop up. When the desktop loaded the error message was:
    "Cannot find C:\Windows\Drivers\SetReso\SetReso.exe "
Everything seems to be working fine, however I have no idea what this error message means. I googled for information and only came up with one link and it was foreign, so I still have no idea what this is or how to fix it.
I contacted Sony (HAHAHAHA) and they said to reinstall a FIFTH time!!!!!!
Can someone please tell me what this file is and what I need to do to fix it.
As far as NIS I will be posting in that section for any suggestions on what is the BEST to use, this is NOT the 1st time NIS has caused my OS to crash and force me to have to reformat.
    Any comments/help/suggestions appreciated.

As you say nothing of merit on Google.

Going by the name it suggests a graphics utility - SetResolution - maybe allied to screen resolution. Can you change the resolution?

It may be an idea to trawl the Sony site for the graphics drivers for the Vaio and reload them and for any other updated drivers for your laptop.

BTW - your experience with the Vaio put me off replacing my aging laptop (HP) with a Vaio, which I found attractive. I stuck with HP :) and bought a dual core HP business laptop with which I am well pleased.

Well if I had know what I know now I would never have purchased a VAIO.

I'm not getting the error message anymore and everythins "SEEMS" to be working ok.

Don't get me wrong, I like the VAIO, but I have had some problems such as not being able to perform SFC and things like that because of the recovery disk.

Sony has all this so hidden in their recovery disks you can't find anything. You can't do an in place reinstall, it's either reinstall the C drive which wipes everything or just install windows which takes you to system restore. I don't consider that just installing windows!!!!!

The computer is fast, has lots of features, runs extremely quite, it's just there recovery software I have a problem with and they think I'm crazy!!!!

Maybe I am but I do know for a fact that OEM software is to be supported by the manufacturer and NOT by Microsoft, which is where they tell you you have to go if you have a problem with your OS.

As usual manufacturer tech support of most any company needs more training.

I personally had a bad experience with HP so I won't even consider purchasing one of their products.

As far as laptops go, I stick with Dell. They got what I want, and I've had good experience, having had a defect LCD screen replaced (under warranty).

I know people aren't too happy with their phone support which they outsourced to India, but I never have to call them anyway :D

I LOVE Dell, but at the time I was furious that my computer wasn't working and just spontaniously went out and bought one. No time to order from Dell, I'm impatient!!!!!!

And YES their tech support stinks, but we learn as we go and I never called them after the 1st few times when I finally realized hummmmmm I knew more than they did!!!!!!!

Speaking of your laptop screen, had a friend buy a refurbished laptop from Dell (comes with 90 day warranty), yep...... you guessed it, after the warranty was over backlight goes out and they want $500 to replace it. Of course I told friend if a company doesn't have more confidence in their products than to guaranteed it for 90 days why waste the money, she paid over $1,000 for a refurbished laptop that is now sitting in a box because we took it apart to find the backlight only to discover that it is built into the actual glass screen. Interesting though to say the least of how it was built. Haven't decided what to do about it yet, I think buying a NEW one would be best and cheaper!!!!!!

OH YEAH PETE......... I installed Winows One Care Live instead of Norton's. Buttttttttttt, I uninstalled it because I could not disable the firewall and it was blocking some things I needed to do. Same thing happened, when I uninstalled it took system files with it, and when I rebooted I had blank desktop, could access task manager but it took forever for it to open anything except IE, and couldn't find anything when you tried to browse My Computer.

So had to reinstall Windows a 5th time. I'm begining to wonder is it Sony, Windows MCE or the "operator ", although I uninstalled the old fashion way through Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, nothing else, just that, no extra deletions of remaining files or reg entries. And upon reboot same SetRes error message, however, on subsequent reboots error message never came back, so not really sure what it was and yes I do have the lastest graphics card driver installed.

So this time going to back system up to an external hard drive before trying anymore AV/firewall software.
