I was typing a letter when all of a sudden the desktop and all fonts shrank to half there normal size. I have managed to get the desktop to fill the screen again but all opening widows are much smaller and type is very difficult to read. Some programmes which previously filled the screen now only fill half of it. If no one can help I will need a magnifying glass!!

Right click an empty spot on your desktop then Properties. Click the Settings tab and see if your resolution has changed from it's normal setting. You can reset it.
